How sociable are you?

I think two different things got crossed in this topic. Being Sociable. and Being Social.

Social: have a long list of friends that you are constantly in contact with, outgoing yadda yadda.
Sociable: Having the basic skills to function is society. being able to hold up a conversation. Having a sense of humour... blah blah.

A sociable person can be un/anti social. and Unsocial person can be sociable and a social person can be unsociable. All other variations probably also happen.

That has confused this topic as both terms have been used interchangeably.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Is that directed at someone in particular?

In my “jahaliya” days I was a lot more sociable. This wasn’t necessarily a good thing.. SOMETIMES the more people you know the more crap/backbiting your likely to get involved with… but it depends on the company you keep and the people you socialise with and your intentions etc

I too was a lot more social, when I was a teenager. I blame the girls I used to hang around with.

I think Islam holds you back at times (in a good way)...Christmas parties in school are going to be coming up - I'll prob be the one in the staffroom, reading a magazine or on my phone whilst the rest of the staff are singing, dancing and getting merry.

Anti-social actually means to hate people and stuff like that. You know, to be agressive.
NOT to be shy.

I'm quite social and sociable, I chat to almost everyone. But I do my best not to overdo it.

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

The kids in my class made Eid cards and learnt Arabic Nasheeds - they hardly 'celebrated' it.

During Xmas time, I'll be making xmas cards with them, giving out xmas cards to members of staff, learning/teaching them numerous xmas songs, planning a nativity play, taking them to see a xmas concert, having a class xmas party, preparing a trip from Santa, eating xmas lunch with them, pulling crackers,....and accepting their xmas presents. Biggrin

The only thing I'll be avoiding is staff xmas parties as they contain alcohol.

Thats fair enough, i was just clarifying.
Evry1 @ work is preparing 4 th christmas party, having secret santa etc. Part of me wants 2 go, i had a great time a couple of yrs ago- it was before i converted but i stil wasnt drinking or anything. I dont think i'l go this year, even if its th only time of th year i can crack open my tuxedo!

Last year at work they had all organised a xmas doo, think they were going to pub then out clubbin. I said i couldnt go for the obvious reason and they changed there plans for me (didnt want me to feel left out). We ended up going to a halal restaurant. This yr im just going along with it and saying yeah im coming but last minute im gonna say no coz that way they cant change their plans. I feel really tight, why should they have to change their plans for me. Plus i dont even celebrate xmas so whats the point.

If it was a situation which the only option was to lie, wouldn't you think that lying is better than being associated with the evils of alcohol and the attributes it comes with?

I know that you where joking with your comment but in the context of what your saying it makes a pretty good argument if you where being serious.

Well Naz, why don't you tell them to go without you from the beginning? You know: "Don't bother, I'm just, 'going to be ill'" or something like that.

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

Its not lying its humouring. They wont take no for an answer. Plus they organised summit proper yet anyway.

honest is almost always the best policy

"Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it. No, no, no!"
Sorry, just had to do that.
Yeah, unless you're being held by some GREAT enemy, honesty is the best policy. Because when people find out that you lied so often, well it's your tough luck.

No, honesty is the best policy pretty much all the time wth few exceptions.

I think most people often dont know exactly why they are in a gathering or among other people.

You need to get your motives clear BEFORE you walk in and try things.

Actually you will want to aim at there hearts to defeat them, you will have to weaken them from the heart.
To win them over you will have to convince them hence you aim at the minds.

Most boys have no success with the inferior species because their target is all wrong.

The boy in question needs to learn how girls think.
