The Star that lead the wise men to Jesus

Star of wonder

Neon star
A sign from God...

By Rebecca Ellis

A comet, an eclipse, a supernova, an alignment of planets - was the Star of Bethlehem, said to have led the wise men to the Baby Jesus, a real astronomical event?

Some 2,000 years ago, wise men saw an incredible star shining over the Holy Land. It was their signal to embark on an epic journey to visit the new Messiah. But what exactly was the Star of Bethlehem?
Comet
... perhaps it was a comet

Modern science is unravelling the mystery behind one of the most famous astronomical stories in history. New developments in technology allow astronomers to map the ancient night skies with extraordinary accuracy.

Vandals hit French Muslim graves

The graves of as many as 500 Muslim war veterans have been vandalised in northern France, in an attack President Nicolas Sarkozy said was "repugnant". [/b]

Gravestones were daubed with swastikas and letters spelling out anti-Islamic slogans at France's biggest military graveyard near Arras in the north-east.

The attack took place on the eve of Islam's Eid al-Adha festival, when Muslims visit the graves of loved ones.

Dozens of police searched the graveyard on Monday as an investigation began.

It is the third time the Muslim sector of the Notre Dame de Lorette cemetery has been attacked.

Postman mauled by rottweilers as he delivers Christmas cards

Surgeons were battling to save the arm of a postman today after he was mauled by a pair of rottweilers while he was delivering Christmas cards in Cambridge.

The 54-year-old was attacked in Gazeley Lane, Trumpington, Cambridge, yesterday morning near a detached house in the quiet, suburban street. His life may have been saved by Anthony Lunn, a bricklayer, who tried to beat the dogs off with an iron bar before running one of them over in his van.

A police spokeswoman said the injuries sustained by the postman were “horrific” and that his arm was ripped by the powerful dogs. “He was very seriously injured and will be fearful about the use of his arm,” she said.

Gay groups angry at Pope remarks

Gay groups angry at Pope remarks

Gay groups and activists have reacted angrily after Pope Benedict XVI said that mankind needed to be saved from a destructive blurring of gender.

Speaking on Monday, Pope Benedict said that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behaviour was as important as protecting the environment.

The comments were "irresponsible and unacceptable", the UK's Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM) said.

Vladimir Luxuria, a transgender former Italian MP, called his words "hurtful".

The row erupted as news emerged that the pontiff is to pay his first visit to the Holy Land in May next year.

'Self-destruction'

Pope Benedict made the comments in an end-of-year speech to senior Vatican staff.

The Revival mag - Your ideas

Salaam

I'm sure most of you have read previous magazines of the revival

so:

do you think there is a need for a muslim youth magazine?

who do you think the revival caters for?

what is good about the revival?

what do you not like about the revival?

how can the revival be improved?

do you read the revival on line or hard copy?

is it easy to get hold of?

how would you compare the revival to other muslim mags?

is ali n jamal 'spot on' or outdated?

Does the website live up to the image of the mag?

Do you think you can contribute to the revival and be a part of the team?

ARE MOSQUES CATERING FOR OUR NEEDS?

SALAAM

Yep, my favourite topic.....

but cos its serious issue i dont mind mentioning it again...and again....

so what do you think role of mosque is?
role of imam? role of committe/administration of mosque?
is mosque just for 'education and worship' or is it there to cater for the NEEDSof the muslim community?

is YOUR mosque catering for needs of the muslim community?
if not why not?

your imam catering for the community?
is committe in touch or backward?

what more do you want from your mosque/imam?

which mosques/imams that YOU know of that are a role model to other mosques/imams?

what facilities does YOUR mosque cater for women? what facilities should it cater for?

Disabilities and the Muslim/asian communities....

Salaams people.

We may have had a topic on this a long time ago, but lets leave that in the past.

Recently, there was a funeral near here. The people gathered in the mosque. Problem was that they had to gather in a different mosque than the one they are associated with. Why?

Because a few family members had degenerative conditions where they were wheelchair bound.

I am quite sure that there are easy access regulations out there to support disabled people, but do many muslims give it a second thought?

Are disabled people treated well in the muslim community or are they hidden away?

Is there a shame attached to disability? are there issues that are overlooked?
