Archbishop backs Shariah Law in the UK
Archbishop backs Sharia law for British Muslims

The Archbishop of Canterbury said today Sharia law should be introduced in the UK for Muslims.

Rowan Williams told BBC Radio 4's World at One the introduction of the controversial system of Islamic justice in the UK was "unavoidable".

Williams said Muslims should be able to choose whether to have matters such as marital disputes dealt with under Sharia law or the British legal system.

...

Williams said his proposal would only work if Sharia law was properly understood, rather than seen through the eyes

Who's Entitled to Interpret the Qur'an?

Here are two opposing arguments. There is a (very interesting) [url= on the Qur'an on guardian unlimited and it has caused a debate.

I have been following your efforts in discovering the meanings of verses and words of the Qur'an. A wonderful and much-needed venture which promises immense reward and blessings from God if undertaken within the set principles that Islam has prescribed.

(more) Things That Make You Say "Alhamdulillah!"

After looking for ages, and by ages I mean a few minutes, I couldn't find the previous topic about this, so I decided to start another:

Lipton Ice Tea (both Peach and Mango), duffel coats, mountains, the word 'vibe', David Attenborough documentaries (preferably about ants or turtles), beanbags, people who are good with words and ting, romanticising past travel experiences, Louis Theroux, wikipedia, trying to forget all the horrendously embarrassing things that i bring on myself, ambiguous life goals.

How about you guys?

Apostasy and Islam
From the Hadith:

Bukhari (52:260) - "...The Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' "

Bukhari (83:37) - "Allah's Apostle never killed anyone except in one of the following three situations: (1) A person who killed somebody unjustly, was killed (in Qisas,) (2) a married person who committed illegal sexual intercourse and (3) a man who fought against Allah and His Apostle and deserted Islam and became an apostate."

Bukhari (84:57) - "[In the words of] Allah's Apostle, 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'"

Bukhari (89:271) - A m

Imam al-Ghazzali
IMAM ABD HAMID AL-GHAZALI

You should not neglect your time or use it haphazardly; on the contrary you should bring yourself to account, structure your litanies and other practices during each day and night, and assign to each period a fixed and specific function.

This is how to bring out the spiritual blessing (baraka) in each period.

But if you leave yourself adrift, aimlessly wandering as cattle do, not knowing how to occupy yourself at every moment, your time will be lost.

Books

Has anyone here read 'Islam and the Destiny of Man' by Gai Eaton? I have been strongly recommended this by a friend but don't know whether its worth getting.

Also, people should try to suggest good books on a range of subjects (not just Islam)!

No goblins please! Blum 3

I like ELV and ELV2 by Nick Nielsen, it shows the paradoxes of time-travel ina very funny way (i read them when I was young)
