Now as they make the pilgrimage clothed in simple white cotton wraps, they will see something other than the stark black cube known as the Kaaba, which is literally the center of the Muslim world. They will also see Starbucks.

A new radio station which claims to be the first in the UK to be run jointly by Muslims and Jews will make history Thursday night when it begins broadcasting for the first time.

Bristol-based Radio Salaam Shalom has attracted media interest from around the world by bringing the two faiths together for the groundbreaking venture.

Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian intelligence agent poisoned in London, is to be buried according to Muslim tradition after converting to Islam on his deathbed.

The spy's father, Walter Litvinenko, said in an interview published today that his son - who was born an Orthodox Christian but had close links to Islamist rebels in Chechnya - made the request as he lay dying in University College Hospital.

They come in all colours, sizes and materials but there's nothing better than a well-fitted shalwar kameez.

There was a time when I would wear my shalwar kameez all the time...I even kept it on all day during Eid. But then some years ago I found people gave me funny looks and I got called freshie and all that. I stopped wearing it. It was either that or I'd have to shave my moustache off.

But I couldn't do it for long and was back wearing my trusted beige shalwar kameez everywhere.
