Looks like there will be Eid on two seperate days again this year!!!!
Below is an article I wrote several years ago for The Revival Magazine...it tries to explain why we have Eid on seperate days:

Why 2 Eids?
"Eid is on Thursday. What d'you mean, we're having our on Friday. How come? Hey that's when our mosque is doing it so don't ask me!"
How many of us have had this kind of chat year in year out? Why do we have Eid on two separate days? Why can't the ulema agree to have it on one day? What are the arguments and debates behind the scene?

Young, Angry and Muslim
In the wake of the London bombings Navid Akhtar, a British Pakistani Muslim, explores the deep-rooted tensions and alienation within his community and asks how this has contributed to the terror attacks. Torn between a modern British identity and the Pakistani Kashmiri culture he was raised in, Navid's own struggle to reconcile the two is threaded throughout this film which provides an insight into the rise of Islamic extremism.
Time: 20:00 to 21:00 (1 hour long).
When: Monday 24th October on Channel 4

Independent Brands The Qur'an A 'Hate Book'
Independent Journalist brands the Qur'an as 'Hate Book'
The editorial section of The Independent featured a vicious attack on Islam with defamation of the Qur'an. The author, Joan Smith writes: "Personally, I have very little time for the Bible and find the Koran dull and repetitive, as well as containing passages that strike me as prima facie examples of anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred of Christians and non-believers." (Independent - 11/10/05)
How many of us even knew this?
How many have done anything about it?

Tajikistan Bans Hijab in Schools, Universities
The Central Asian former Soviet republic of Tajikistan has decided to ban hijab in schools and universities.
"This headwear represents a religious ideology and is in contravention of education law," Education Minister Abduzhabor Rakhmonov was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
He claimed that hijab serves to "propagate an ideology"
Islam sees hijab as an obligatory code of dress, not a religious symbol displaying one’s affiliations – unlike the symbolic Christian crucifixes.

France Imams Against Translated Tarawih
Several French imams have rejected calls by young French Muslims for monitors displaying French translation of Qur'anic verses recited during Tarawih, urging them to learn Arabic, the original language of the Muslim holy book.
"From the Shari'ah point of view, getting into prayers, whether Tarawih or other prayers, requires reciting or listening to Qur’an in Arabic," Anis Qirqah, the director of Fatwa departm
