Israel offers compensation for Gaza flotilla deaths

Israel offers £63,000 each to families of men killed on Mavi Marmara in exchange for Turkey's help in indemnifying navy against lawsuits

Israel has proposed paying compensation to relatives of Turks it killed during a raid on a Gaza-bound ship, in exchange for Ankara's help in indemnifying the Israeli navy against lawsuits, officials said today.

that they are willing to offer money to the families of the victims, say a few words of regret (but they will try not to apologise) and in return they want it that the families cannot personally sue the soldiers who were involved.

The last thing is as if they can be sued, then those soldiers then would need to be careful when traveling abroad to not go somewhere they can be sued for their actions.

No idea if the terms will be accepted though.

When it comes to justice, that is normally something that can be done to individual people on an individual scale, but when it comes to countries, it is rarely the same.

People can't be brought back from the dead and if this is the closest their families get to justice, its still a token and may make Israel think twice in the future before deciding to send such a message, that there are consequences.

If the Turkish relationship with Israel can be slightly salvaged, it may also help in other things, like negotiations between Syria and Israel over the Golan heights.

On the other hand, the offer may be rejected outright.
