Robert Newman's History of Oil

Something I was linked to earler and spent the last 45 minutes watching - very good, even if you are not interested in oil.

It has humour and knowledge.

What surprised me was how World War 1 was NOT started by the assassination of a nobody, but by the British invasion of Iraq. (about 4 minutes into part 2)

Comments

From about 4 minutes into part 2:

"The British are unique amongst amongst of nations in their naivety about geopolitics because we are unique amongst nations in our ignorance about our history. How curious for example how the first world was is never taught as an invasion of Iraq."

Germany did not have any oil producing colonies, so they decided to extend the orient express through the Ottoman empire to Iraq to create the Berlin-Baghdad railway. However, all the other powers were against this move and conspired against a stronger Germany as ot would break their cartel.

"War breaks out, the first British regiment to be deployed in the first world war, the Dorsett regiment goes to Basra where it is joined by 51 other divisions. If you go onto the dorset Regiment's website... "first regiment to moz in 1914..." not a word about the second regiment going to basra in 1914"

Also - in the Nuremberg, no one was charged with genocide. The charges were related to waging aggressive war. If Tony Blair was to appear in a similar court, he would be executed.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Adding to the above, the British conquered Basra, Baghdad and Mosul in 1918. Within a month, World War one was over.
