On Your Marks Get Set…Go!

Salaam

That’s how it feels like when my brother reads his prayer…his head barely touches the floor in sajdah and he’s up again.

How long does it take you to read two Rakahs? Under a min? Two min’s? Three/five min?

Or does it depend on which Salaah you’re reading…for me, my Fajr’s are usually rushed cos I just want to get back in bed :? …yet, I take my time for the prayers I read before bed.

Does your fast lifestyle ever have an impact on how fast you read your prayers? And how long should it take just to read two rakah’s?

I’m anti rushing salaah…but at the same time, I don’t agree with those who take a long time to read their prayers…. sometimes we’re late, have to totally miss outings or have dinner delayed by 45min cos certain members of my family take so long to finish their prayer.
Worship shouldn’t inconvenience others.

How long one takes is relative….but generally speaking, how long should it take one to read just two rakah’s?

Wasalaam

One who is a headbanger is a) a thief and b) has not read his salaah according to the Nabi salallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Fard Salah should be kept short as per sunnah as the congregation should not be invenienced but nowadays a short Salah is one where only the last 10 Suwar are recited and those from 2/3rds Amma Para, or Tabaarak Para etc are regarded as long whereas in reality they are still short suwar.

This reminds me of a story from Only Fools and Fools, Mawlana Ahmad Ali Sahib.

Quote:
A bedouin once joined the Imam for fajr salah. He had an appointment after the prayer but the Imam decided to recite Surah Baqarah. As a result of the length of this surah, the bedouin was delayed and missed his appointment. The next day he arrived early and joined the Imam again, who this time began reciting Surah Feel. Completely angry, the bedouin broke his prayer and left the mosque, shouting
"Yesterday you read The Cow and finished The Cow and today you are reciting The Elephant, you will probably finish at midnight"

lol. mashaALLAH.

Ya ALLAH Madad.

Lol i know what you mean i see alot of kids reading really fast like theyre in a hurry. Like when im in Masjid and the guy next to me has read his whole 4 rakhaats salaat and im only half way through it does make you think. That he probably read so fast that he said the words wrong and may have even missed some out.

Lol all you see on the corner of you're eye is some guy praying like Linford Christie does his 100 metres sprint and zzzoooom he's off.

i'd say im a fairly average speed reader i don't like reading really fast coz you ruin the whole essence of worship then and how does it look to Allah, that this guy cant even spare a bit of their time to worship me properly.

And if i read really slowly i find it harder to focus coz i start thinking of irrelevant things like a conversation i might have had with someone.

The best way i think to read is in a good pace rather like if you were reading out loud and youre molvi saab or parents were testing you. Coz at the end of the day Allah is testing you on how you read youre salaat.

Islam is the Key to paradise but without practice it won't open the gates.

i dont like reading behind people who prolong their salaah and ur foot falls asleep in ruku or sajda

Thats good shows you are a caring person and probably think of all the problems in the world and ask Allah S.W.T for help.

I'm sometimes like that when i read my dua i try to include everything i see wrong in the world and i always try to pray for the people who have passed away, it helps me to keep the memories alive.

Lol pray for me too........ Blum 3

unless of course her hour on the prayer mat after salaah consists of duas all solely dedicated to her

LOL

I remember my experience in Ummrah, I could barely get up for fajr and the Iman (bless him) used to read the most longest surah ever, I must say I used to get awfuly tired...I think I am the most laziest person ever!

I think I read namaz at an average speed, not sure what is considered slow/fast..

i was 9 n immature when i went to umrah

when dad used to wake us up for fajr-neither me or my sister wud talk to him all the way to the mosque

dunno why all the long surah's were reserved for Fajr

we used to find it so hard to wake up for fajr-we'd go to sleep after reading our fajr and wud sleep till zuhr

I admit, im a fairly quick reader

the slowest read i know, who i have the pleasure of reading (and sleeping!) behind is Dawud.....at mosque once he had jus finished his Isha by the time food had been served and cleaned up

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

I can read two rakahs in under 2 mins...I think.

I sometimes find it hard to wake up for fajr so what I do in my summer holidays (now) is that I stay awake until fajr time comes in, and I pray and go to bed. Simple.

Except I wake up at zuhr time so have to pray zuhr then eat my lunch around 2pm.

My speed depends on how much time ive got and if i have other important things to aswell. If i dont have anything then i'll take my time and read at the easiest speed that comes to me.

Although im naturally inclined to do everything fast.

If that was the case I'd spend more time making dus for others and less time making dua's for myself, instead of the other way round... :?

Lol-and what does Kas want?

Assalamu alaikum,

I've only ever seen someone rush their prayers once, during a mosque conference. To tell the truth i didn't think she was doing salat at first. When i realised she was i was racking my brains thinking how did she read Al-fatihah, and another surah in under a minute and make the prostration aswell. For the life of me i tried out the scenario in my head, the times just didn't match.

I never said nothing to her, maybe i should have but i didn't wana come across all self righteous perhaps she was a convert, perhaps no one had taught her and she was too ashamed to ask someone, Perhaps she'd reply what biz is it of yous. Point is i wimped out, didn't say nothing, not good but i couldn't get myself to open my mouth :?

shortening prayers by reading just the obligatory elements for salat is one thing, but rushing it so much that you don't fulfill even the obligatory requirements is another. The latter makes your prayer invalid. I have shortended my prayer in the former sense, but i've not done the pecking routine before and i pray God protects me from such negligence.

Quote:
Moving at a measured pace during prayer

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to move at a measured pace during salaah, allowing every bone to return to its place. (Its isnaad is classed as saheeh in Sifat al-Salaat, p. 134, 11th edn. Ibn Khuzaymah also classed it as saheeh as mentioned by al-Haafiz in al-Fath, 2/308). He commanded those who were not doing their prayer properly to do this too. He said, “None of you has prayed properly until he does this.” (Reported by Abu Dawood, 1/536, no. 858).

Abu Qutaadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The worst type of thief is the one who steals from his prayer.’ He said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, how can a person steal from his prayer?’ He said, ‘By not doing rukoo’ and sujood properly.’” (Reported by Ahmad and al-Haakim, 1/229; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 997).

Abu ‘Abd-Allaah al-Ash’ari (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘The one who does not do rukoo’ properly, and pecks in sujood, is like a starving man who eats only one or two dates; it does not do him any good at all.’” (Reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 4/115. In Saheeh al-Jaami’ it says, hasan).

The one who does not move at a measured pace in his prayer cannot have khushoo’ because haste is a barrier to khushoo’ and pecking like a crow is a barrier to reward.
