it was crap.

nothing new.

Just watching this now... about seven minutes in talking about that young kid and the evidence against him...

were not all young kids interested in such things like explosives, napalm, firearms etc? I can remember something from when I was that age - downloading "the jolly roger cook book".

It was just general interest and maybe even a taste of the forbidden - knowing how to make such stuff (which I promptly forgot since it was boring). I have heard of other people lighting fire to their garages etc when messing out with such stuff.

It is just idle curiosity.

I would never risk doing that now though, simply as having it is probably a guarantee of being convicted under anti terrorism legislation - the guy was convicted of "having information likely to be of use to terrorists". Thats a total BS conviction!

There is also another error in the narrations - it says that the extremist groups have a literal interpretation - more literal than what the mainstream Muslims accept.

That is false - the mainstream approach is to take the qur'an literally. The extremist groups generally need to twist the message and take it out of context to support their message and not the way around that is suggested.

.

The narrator does seem to be ... trying to play things up/sensationalise things.

He has an already prepared narrative that he is trying to fit things into.

(almost) random people on a website are suddenly "cells" in a larger plot... and they are getting material from "al qaeda" online... they are building a network and system that simply does not exist in the real world.

Referring to people as cells suddenly seems all the more sinister.

Their website usernames suddenly become call signs/aliases and once again much more sinister.

Anyone know who this Peter Taylor is?

[EDIT - the Canada stuff later on in the documentary felt more "solid" unlike the first half]

Even with many of the people "radicalised", don't f%^& with the world, and these people would not have gone to the place where they did.

Just about to watch and the very first words already set an agenda: "Britain faces a clear and present terrorist threat, unlike any we have faced before..."

Those are the first words and simply put they are lies.

It ignores not only recent history with the IRA, but also other far right groups - the brixton and brick lane (racially motivated) bombings were not in some other universe.

Lets not forget that a car bomb went off in Northern Ireland just last night that is said to have been by some disgruntled members of the IRA.

Take out the first ten/fifteen or so minutes of this episode and after that it seems to be better.

(The episode is mostly about the prevent strategy)

One bad thing that the program shows is how the mainstream are becoming afraid of discussing the issue of jihad. That is a very serious issue.
