Offers for help are pouring in for an eight-year-old Liberian girl disowned by her own family in Phoenix, Arizona, after being raped by four boys.
The girl is under the care of the Arizona Child Protective Service (CPS) because her parents said she had shamed them, and they did not want her back.
Phoenix police said calls had come in from all over the US offering money, or even to adopt the young girl.
The boys, Liberian immigrants aged nine to 14, have been charged with rape.
The case has sparked outrage across the US and even drawn condemnation from Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, an outspoken anti-rape campaigner.
"I think that family is wrong. They should help that child who has been traumatised," Mrs Johnson-Sirleaf told CNN.

This kind of reaction disturbingly exists in all parts of the world. It pains me beyond comprehension to hear of such events.

animals!
Atleast the parents did not abandon the child. As for the actions of the hospitals - shocking and despicable.
(If those animals were so desperate they should have hired a hooker.)

assalamu alaikum,
unfortunately i think this is pretty much the attitude of many asians in the uk, muslim or otherwise. I've heard it in my community, it's a unsaid thing, but it's known to every girl if you get raped it's your fault. Even if you never provoked it in any way you may have been at home, and someone broke in, still the girl will be blamed. Or family member may have committed the disgusting act, if it's family more likely to be brushed aside to avoid "scandal"
My point is it's not just a Arab thing, or foreign thing, these ignorant attitudes are present here in the west.

If it does happen, I doubt the stigma/blame is all that common here. (I can't even imagine it existing, but if you say it does it probably does - I had not come across things like "honour crimes" before their existence was brought up by members on this site!)
