Outcry over disowned US rape girl
Offers for help are pouring in for an eight-year-old Liberian girl disowned by her own family in Phoenix, Arizona, after being raped by four boys.
The girl is under the care of the Arizona Child Protective Service (CPS) because her parents said she had shamed them, and they did not want her back.
Phoenix police said calls had come in from all over the US offering money, or even to adopt the young girl.
The boys, Liberian immigrants aged nine to 14, have been charged with rape.
The case has sparked outrage across the US and even drawn condemnation from Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, an outspoken anti-rape campaigner.
"I think that family is wrong. They should help that child who has been traumatised," Mrs Johnson-Sirleaf told CNN.
"They too need serious counselling because clearly they are doing something, something that is no longer acceptable in our society here," she added...

animals!
Atleast the parents did not abandon the child. As for the actions of the hospitals - shocking and despicable.
(If those animals were so desperate they should have hired a hooker.)

assalamu alaikum,
unfortunately i think this is pretty much the attitude of many asians in the uk, muslim or otherwise. I've heard it in my community, it's a unsaid thing, but it's known to every girl if you get raped it's your fault. Even if you never provoked it in any way you may have been at home, and someone broke in, still the girl will be blamed. Or family member may have committed the disgusting act, if it's family more likely to be brushed aside to avoid "scandal"
My point is it's not just a Arab thing, or foreign thing, these ignorant attitudes are present here in the west.

If it does happen, I doubt the stigma/blame is all that common here. (I can't even imagine it existing, but if you say it does it probably does - I had not come across things like "honour crimes" before their existence was brought up by members on this site!)

Rape of 8-year-old girl tears Arizona's Liberian immigrant community apart
The hundreds of Liberian families who sought refuge in Arizona fled a West African civil war that piled the unthinkable upon the more routine horrors of conflict, many at the hands of children.
In Phoenix the families thought they had put all that behind them but in recent days they, and much of the rest of Arizona's capital, have grappled with what appears to be a terrible crime apparently made worse by an almost incomprehensible response.
It was bad enough that four boys, one only 9 years old, allegedly lured an 8-year-old girl in to a shed with a promise of chewing gum and took turns raping and assaulting her. But what followed has left Phoenix residents and authorities perplexed and angry.
When the police arrived, the girl's mother told them to take her daughter away and not bring her back because she brought shame on the family by saying she was raped.
"Nothing has happened to my daughter. Nobody has touched my daughter," said the mother who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of her daughter.
The child's older sister said she only has herself to blame.
"I said to her: It's not good for you to be following guys because you're still little," she said. "She always bring trouble."
The girl has been taken in to care.
