RAMALLAH, occuiped West Bank (IPS) - Reconciliation between rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah is looking increasingly problematic as the two groups exchange serious accusations of treason, torture and extrajudicial killings.

Tension between the two groups has escalated in the wake of Israel's 22-day military assault on Gaza, code-named Operation Cast Lead, which left more than 1,300 Palestinians dead, nearly 5,000 wounded, and the coastal territory's infrastructure decimated.

Not good - not good at all.

yup yup.

An interesting bit in there is about what happened in 2007 - where Israeli, Egyptian and American backed influence failed in Fatah's attempted coup which was foiled and lead to the kick out of Fatah from Gaza.

UN spokesman Christopher Gunness said Hamas police took 3,500 blankets and over 400 food parcels.

The Hamas Social Affairs Minister in Gaza, Ahmed al-Kurd, denied that members of the Islamist movement had removed aid from a UN building.

However, he said his ministry was in dispute with the UN relief agency about how aid should be distributed.

He accused the UN of giving aid to local groups with ties to Hamas opponents...
