I will briefly post the event here for everyone. Read up for details.
The Incident of Mubahila
Christians Clerics came to see Prophet Muhammad for a theological debate on the nature of Jesus.
They maintained that Jesus was Divine because was the son of God.
The Prophet tried to show them that Esa was a human being, a Messenger of God.
The Bishops would not have it. Jesus had no human father. Therefore, only God could be his father.
They maintiained that Prophet was incorrect in his belief.
The Prophet tried to reason with the Bishops. He argued that if Jesus was the son of God because he was born without a father, then what about Adam. Adam would be greater than Jesus, for he had neither father nor mother.
Despite this, the discussions dragged on.
The Christians accused the Prophet of being wrong.
This was taken as an insult.
Prophet's Companions were enraged. Up in arms, they wanted violence.
Prophet calmned them. He decreed that no sword shall be raised against the Christians.
There was only way to settle it.
Let God decide the matter.
A few days passed. Prophet waited until everyone was cooled down.
God told the Prophet:
Say: " Come, let us bring our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and our souls and your souls, then let us humbly pray to God and invoke His curse upon the liars."
According to God’s command, the Prophet made public the challenge.
Each party would pray that God show who are correct and who are wrong.
They would invoke God’s curse on the party that was wrong whichever it might be.
Christians accepted the challenge.
On the designated day and time, the Prophet came.
He carried Husain in his arms, and lead Husan by his hand. His daughter Fatima followed close behind. And behind her was his cousin Ali, carrying the standard.
Fulfilling the words of God, the Prophet had brought his grand children as his "sons", his daughter as his "women", and Ali as his "soul".
Seeing that the Prophet was accompanied by his immediate family, the Christians Bishops hesitated to invoke God's curse on such a noble family.
They decided to back away from the confrontation and agreed to pay Jizya tax to the Muslim state instead.
Christians and Muslims continued to lived peacefully. Prophet even paid for the building of Christians Churches.
It is an absolute necessity for Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamâ'at (a.k.a. Sunni's) to love the Ahlul Bayt, that being
Hazrat Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Tâleb (KaramAllah wajhu),
Hazrat Sayyidatina Fatimah (Radhi Allahu Anha) and their descendants (Radhi Allahu 'Anhum Ajma'iin).
Loving the Ahlul Bayt will result in one to die in a state of Iman. Books written by the Ahlus-Sunnah have always included writings commending their love. One can NOT be of the Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamâ'at and NOT have love, respect, and admiration of the Ahlul Bayt.
Over time, very few internet sites, as well as books in English, by Ahl-Sunnah include information pertaining to the Ahlul Bayt, and our love for the Ahlul Bayt. The result of this has been seen as Muslims have been too afraid to show their love and adoration for the Ahlul Bayt for fear of being classified as a Shi'ah, even though the Holy Last Messenger (Sallallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam) has said:
When I am loved, then my family members, whom I love should also be loved. [Sahih al-Tirmidhi]
No you're not. You are mixing it a lot with Arabic.
its a good language... go learn it.

We were just discussing at the study circle today, how to gain the love of the Holy Prophet and it was mentioned through greetings and salutations upon the Holy Prophet (saw).
Basically the example that was given was when one is going pass someone daily and they say salam to them once then its likely that later on they will ask "how are u" basically you will form some sort of link. Likewise when you send salam upon the Holy Prophet you will also form a link with the Holy Prophet hence gain love for him (saw).

i read this ayah the other day, and it reminded me of what Omrow said of the 'Mubahilah':
Quote:
3:61 Then whoever disputes with you concerning him [Jesus] after (all this) knowledge that has come to you, say (O Muhammad): "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves - then we pray and invoke (sincerely) the Curse of Allah upon those who lie."
(ofcourse i cannot say for sure that this ayah specifically refers to the aforementioned event, as i have not studied it in context... inshaAllah will let u all know when i find out more about it)

I was reading a book called "Greetings and Salutations On the Holy Prophet (saw)" by Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, the following paragraph taken from the above book talks bout the love of the Holy Prophet and how it is a vital component of Iman;
Religious practices such as offering prayer, performing hajj, giving zakat, keeping fasts, preaching, and spending in charities comprises the body of Islam. The extreme love and reverence of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) constitutes the soul of the body. Both the body and the soul are combined to make a human. A soul can exist without a body as it did in the spiritual world. It exists in the material world and it will continue to exist until the Hereafter. However, a body without a soul cannot exist instead it decays. Similarly our practices and good acts without the love of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) can never be proved to be fruitful, everlasting or rewardable. Like the soul, the love of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), even in its abstract form can remain positive and earn reward. However, it would not be a complete and productive eiman[8]. Although the love of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) helps a man to restore its relation with the body, an enlightened and strong eiman can only be achieved by combining the soul and the body.
We had a lecture on Durood and Salam in Pak but I heard a bit of the lecture again today by Shaykh-ul-Islam. He was talking about a Sahaba (ra) cant remeber the Sahaba's name, neway he used to drink wine yet when he used to see the Holy Prophet tired and sad he used to make the Holy Prophet smile. The Holy Prophet on many occasions asked him to stop drinkin, the Sahaba (ra) tried but would fail and once when he was intoxicated he was brought before the Holy Prophet and the people were cursing him but the Holy Prophet said "this person loves His Lord and His Prophet" (saw).
Basically, what i learnt from that is one shouldn't be quick to judge on a persons sinful action and think they are a sinner. Also it shows the Holy Prophet didnt want to hear any curses against him because he loved Allah (swt) and the Holy Prophet (saw). Allah (swt) is the judge of our intentions and actions.
Salam

Omrow
Thank you for that, its the first I've heard of this incident, that was very well explained.
BTW do not call me binger.
Yeah same here, first time I have heard of that too. However I have heard the Hadith about the Ihle-bait countless times.

I know its good dusty woman.
Thats why you should not mixe it with any other.
I don't like so see a pure tongue mixing with a dirty tongue.
Pure things should remain pure.

You have explained that brilliantly angel.
I didn't know you had it in you.
Every word of your shines with glory of the Prophet.
He will be most pleased with your exposition.
And I thank you also. Well done.

This poem is so beautiful, explains the Holy Prophet's character/life/everything (sorry dont have link - so had to post the full poem)
For you and me
When the world was full of darkness and oppression
He worshipped his One Lord in seclusion
Away from all idols, away from all deity
In Cave Hiraa he was chosen...As he propagated the Message True,
Not many believed him but a few
He faced torture, persecution and agony
Yet he endured it...for you and me
They mocked him, they cursed him, a madman they called him,
With money they even tried to buy him,
They threw on him intestines and garbage so filthy,
But, he patiently persisted...for you and me
A heart full of hope, he turned to another place,
Maybe they will believe in him; his was a familiar face
But they stoned him, and pelted him with debris
At Taif, he bled...for you and me
Such atrocity! The Heavens shook, the Earth cried
He could have easily had them destroyed
Yet he forgave them. If he didn't, we wouldn't be
For they were the ancestors...for you and me.
In the Night of Israa, his Lord honored him,
Up to the Seven Heavens He called him
When the Order came for Prayers Fifty
"Ya Rabb, five." He pleaded...for you and me
For thirteen years he spread Islaam
Teaching them the basics of Imaan
Yet they didn't understand; their hearts were empty
So to Madina he migrated ...for you and me.
They tried to stop him, but his Message was unstoppable
They tried to suppress him, but the Truth was inevitable
He brought to the world, peace and equality
He spread the Light...for you and me
He was truthful, upright, kind and compassionate
He was humble, noble, brave and so gallant
Kindness was his message even to his enemy
Such was his teaching...for you and me.
He was Allaah's Beloved, his sins were forgiven,
But he worshipped all night till his feet were swollen,
Not for his own self concerned was he
He prayed all night...for you and me
It was his Ummah that was the cause of his worry
His eyes would turn red, his beard so teary
Our Hereafter was his anxiety
He shed his tears....for you and me
He came to perfect good manners, his was the perfect example
Qur'an was his character, so noble was his sample
He was sent to all creation as a mercy
He is the Best...for you and me.
If we follow his Sunnah, uphold his Way
We will succeed surely on that Day
No more tiredness, no more thirsty
He will wait at Kauther...for you and me.
When all other Prophets (peace be upon them all) will turn away
Ummati, Ummati is what he will say
"Forgive them, Ya Allaah!", will be his plea
He will intercede...for you and me.
And now they try, as they tried once before
To defame and slander him, but one thing's for sure
They will NEVER, EVER succeed, for undoubtedly
He is the highest with the Almighty.
Look at what he did for you, look how much he loved you
The big question is: what are YOU going to do?
STAND UP AND DEFEND HIM, YA UMMATI!
The time is NOW... for you and me.
But don't lose perspective, in a moment of passion
Remember to behave in an Islamic fashion
Don't respond to evil with violence and cruelty
That's what he (SallAllahu 'alayhi wasallam) said...to you and me.

Subhanallah
The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.
Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.
