indeedy - what is wrong about asking for references? i'm interested too, in my family this day isn't really 'commemorated' with fasting or anything, i dunno if that's a good or bad thing - can someone please provide references regarding the nawaafil acts to be performed on this day/night?
jazaakumullah khayr.

Same here...
It not sunnah rite , and no special reward is stated anywhere if ibaadat is done on this night rite like for say laylatul -qadr
Maybe lilsis knows

oh please! people....
same old boring, pointless stuff
its bidah? where sthe evidence...blah blah blah
we've discussed this a million of times...
answers to these will be found on many sites.... this is not the place.
these issues need a scholarly stance....
we shud know this....
otherwise it ends up like it is now...arguing and squabbling ....
some ppl will never change....

Cant remember discussing this here, was discussing this night with mates...everyone held different views...

For the record I aint mentioned anything abt bid'ah nor have I said anything apart from requesting references. Dont know whats so problematic with that  .
Y'knw what I find hilarious? How people celebrate certain days but forget about the message behind those days. Wasn't Laylatul Mi'raaj the night when this Ummah was granted the 5 daily salawaat? And according to some ulama one who discards one salah on purpose becomes a kafir and his kalimah must be said again and his nikah re-read. This is what salah is.

Ok last time I checked hanafi fiqh one who rejects namaz is kafir but one who misses it out of laziness is a fasiq (sinner), so med what the hell you talkin about?
Med you said it yourself, we are given the 5 daily prayers through Miraj sharif hence if we do voluntary prayer on this particular nite, what is wrong with that? Any Ibadah is a good thing.
Also you're generalising, how do u know those that pray on these special occasions don't pray normally?

Angel: I said according to some ulama. I didnt say it was the hanafi ruling. Im talking about the opinion of a group of the Hanaabilah - Islamic fiqh is more than just the hanafi madhab y'knw
I was making a general comment. Just get me the references pls - thats all Im asking for.
No Topic (Old and now locked)
You follow the hanbali fiqh?
No Topic (Old and now locked)
According to a quick internet search (yeah yeah cue the shaykh googlge jokes...)
Noone says it is banned to pray extra on that night.
What is disputed is wether the extra prayers are sunnah, or just normal nawaafil.
I real this in an answer by Mufi Taqi something... Med has quoted him before... He said that while there were hadith suggestions of such prayers, they were all from weak hadith. He did not quote any in that post.
So no first hand evidence.
But second hand evidence says there are some weak ahadith. Now it depends on what emphasis is given to weak ahadith. I was taught that weak ahadith are acceptable for fadhail, but not for ahkaam.
As always, I would suggest to those who are gonna pray extra during the night, just focus on doing wadaa for the fardh prayers one has missed.

Odd place for this... but I need your prayers. I'm slipping back into alcohol and I've decided to try to give it up completely and forever no exceptions period... didn't do this last time and I'm not sure how difficult it will be given the stress of my life at the moment.
Thanks

Try and have a replacement for the alcohol so it won't be as hard. Such as drinking orange juice or lemonade instead of alcohol.
Don't say I'll just have a sip of alcohol, stop it completely. People who are trying to quite smoking say "I'll just have one puff" and then they get sucked in and start smoking heavily again.
Make sure your wife helps you with quiting alcohol, it makes you feel that you have someone who is gonna help you through the difficult period.
Lastly try not going out with friends who are drinking in front of you as you will be tempted to start drinking again.

God will greatly reward the one who restrains himself when he has the power to give in to his temptations.

Good luck Mel!
Dave, you do not need luck. Those who need it don't deserve it. Those who deserve it don't need it.
I am certain you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.
you and your sect business.
if you dont think theres anything special about the night of ascension, then why do you get all uppity about it?
