Eid ul-Adha

Asalam Walikum

I know its a bit early but hey what the heck.

Every Eid mum always buys everyone clothes (even if you dont want them or need them she doesnt take no for an answer). Dad use to give us money but now he says im too old which is ok with me coz it means the lil ones get more.

This Eid i was thinking about giving Eid presents to my family. I have never bothered before but this Eid im thinking why not (i must be getting soft in my old age). While i can easily shop for the little ones (they are never picky about what they want and get) i find shopping for older siblings really hard.

Does anyone else give presents? If so what do you buy?

I was thinking about giving money to the older ones but i think its just really impersonal, like you couldnt be bothered.

Jazakallah x

No. Too much thought.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

huh?

you mean you don't all give gifts to everyone?

Don't just do something! Stand there.

No, don't give presents. I only give money to my lil bro. Actually I gave my friends lil boy a small gift.

I think giving gifts is a nice idea as long as it doesn't become what Eid is all about and it doesn't cause stress.

Think about what you'd get them for their birthdays and try getting them something similar... it depends what they're into though.

Can't afford to give gifts out. Inshaa'Allah once i'm rich i'll give everyone a present.

Why do you say Asalaam Walaikum? Or is it just a typo?

To foster some love, for the fist time did I give out some Eid Gifts. A box of chocolates and a nice Eid card was presented to each family and some close friends.

A rose protects its beauty with thorns..a woman protects hers with a veil

I only give out gifts on birthdays and so on... on eid its just money.

Buying someone a gift is alot more personal imo. I usually have something picked out almost months before someones birthday or im thinking about what to get them for a few months before hand.

IMO giving gifts to close family and friends is easy. You just need to know what they're likes and dislikes are. My brother was really into football so i bought his shares in his favourite football team coz that way he owns a little part of that team. I bought my mum and dad a brand new suit. Ive bought my kid sister cuddly toys and jewelry.

i agree giving presents is not what Eid is about but i thought it would be nice to give a little something to everyone including giving Zakat must not forget that.

I was thinking a box of chocolate for the awkward to shop for ppl but they are on a diet an it would be too cruel. Only got two ppl left… theres still a bit of time.

This eid i want to spend it with my family rather than doing the same old stuff with my mates.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...

And if you don't want a present that goes off quickly....

Its EID!!! FOOD IS IN EVERY HOUSEHOLD WHAT KIND OF PRESENT IS FOOD!! unless its in ramadan.

I've never exchanged presents before - its too expensive to buy something nice for everyone you know, plus..my bro/sisters despite being unemployed students, have ridiculously extravagent taste....(If I ask them what they want, my bro asks for the N95, and my sister will ask for a gucci watch??!!)

However, this year, I might buy something for mum and give my siblings money.

what date is eid most likely to fall on?

i have new eid clothes, bought them a while ago (for once)

too many cousins to give individual presents so something for each family (if theyre lucky- skint this time round)

only give money to my nephew
dont ever expect any- cos i cant remember the last time anyone gave me money on eid Sad

To be beautiful is to expect nothing in return.

alhamdulilah alhamdulilah. im expecting something special this eid, as u missed out my bday and lil eid present! so get saving the pennies chick Wink

Food isnt in every household. Cos my SIL never makes any and comes to my mums house :@
Every eid same thing.

I dnt give presents or receive any Sad (I'm not working/in debt) Although last year bought niece couple of toys from hamleys.

Giving money is best, cos then they can buy whatever they want?

i have the same problem.

i would but i know they will only go and spend it on crap.

Some of them are easy to shop for (the normal ones that are into normal things) then are the awkward ones e.g. one of my younger bros only wears certain branded clothes and even then he is picky about the colours (on several occasions i have taken him to town but the stuff i think is nice he dont like). One of my younger sis's dresses like a bloke and even buys clothes from the guys section (the girl clearly has a problem with her agenda). I refuse to encourage her weird phase

Just get some vouchers for debenhams or your closest shopping centre.

When its Eid, i generally always give out Eid cards and/or gifts to my family and friends.. and when its Christmas, i give out seasons greetings cards to everyone.. I dont know why, but alhamdulilah i love buying and giving cards and gifts, and find any excuse to give people them lol

I dont understand why there needs to be a prerequisite that a gift needs to be expensive to be given though.. :? Dont get me wrong, I do buy nice expensive fancy things as well, but ive always found that the most thoughtful and inexpensive gift from the heart is the most treasured one.. Its always the thought that counts, right? Wink

May Allah shine sweet faith upon you this day and times beyond. May your heart be enriched with peace, and may your home be blessed always. Ameen.

lol@spend on crap.

Girl buying clothes from guy section? :O

Take em out for a meal after eid if they are going to spend it on crap? Or give them some money and they can put it towards something not so crap that they been wanting like digi cam, or money towards a course? :S
for kids, toys/sweets/clothes.

I-m so happy thats what i did last Eid paid for everyones meal. Thought i do something different this Eid. Its easier to shop when you got a small family but when you got one as big as mine you dont half get a headache lol. Ive been racking my brain for days, lost sleep over it but no more im gonna buy mum, dad and one of my lil bro pressies the rest are getting vouchers. If they dont appreciate it well frankly i dont care they can just take a hike lol.

Poor you.

I've also got a fairly large family and I don't buy anyone anything for Eid. I've lost sleep... but it's only due to watching documentaries and programmes on the net @ night :D.
