First SUBWAY halal store opens

The fastest growing sandwich retailer SUBWAY opened its first Halal store in Walthamstow, East London, last week.
It is the first of what could be up to 200 Halal SUBWAY stores across the UK and Ireland.

"The introduction of Halal meats shows a true commitment by the SUBWAY chain of offering our customers choice. We have worked diligently with our suppliers to introduce a full range of certified Halal meats. We can now offer our Muslim customers our full range of Subs that are fresh, made-to-order and just the way our customers like them," says SUBWAY Operations Director, Mark Bradley.

SUBWAY Franchisee Farhat Abbas said he was delighted to bring the SUBWAY chain to his community.

"The first Halal SUBWAY store in the Selbourne Walk shopping centre will offer our Muslim community a full menu eating experience. All the meat we use has been prepared according to the rules of Halal and has been certified by the Islamic Foundation of Ireland."

While SUBWAY Developer, Hamed Al-Naqeeb, said there was "very strong demand" for halal meat.

"In the US there are Halal stores already open that are doing great business and are very popular. The critical point about our stores is that they are very closely tied into the local communities in which they operate – and it is important that they reflect what each community needs," he said.
