Campaign to ban page 3 from the sun

I don't read this trashy paper I came across it at work once in the staff room. News lacks depth, and there's porn inside. porn should be on the top shelf. We say we're the most civilised country in the world, this is the nations most read paper, what does it say about their morals when they accept this as just a bit of ' harmless' fun. I wouldn't want my kids seeing it, I wouldn't want to see a man looking at page 3 on the bus, I'd get up and move its disgusting, disturbing even to normalise it. I mean its not a regular occurrence to see men reading playboy on public transport, why coz its porn, they know society looks down on it, so why any difference with page 3?

i don't think it will be banned but here's to hoping, if anyone wishes to sign please do and encourage as man Muslims as possible to sign:

I started my campaign long ago by not buying it.

As long as there is a market it will exist.

We dont live in an authoritarian place where such things get banned that easily (unless its the royal family, where the magazine headquarters get stormed...)

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

I read something on MSN about a woman saying that they have the right to pose there as no one is forcing them. I won't post te article but I'll briefly summarise her points. She argued that: It pays better than menial jobs, the women are not coerced,  it does not incite violence against women as Lynne Featherstone (allegedly) claimed and it happens everywhere with men and women on bill boards so it should be allowed.

Firstly, that gives the impression that it is OK to sexualise someone so long as you pay them money, which is even worse. Your dignity is priceless.

Secondly, common sense (as well as some research) shows that these women have been sexualised from a young age, had their confidence shattered many times and they are always trying to escape some desperation. Why does no little girl aspire to be a page 3 model?

Thirdly, she misunderstood Ms Featherstone's comment. It's more subtle than that. Page 3 and all the bill boards give the impression that women are sex objects, or that by sexualising men we can get equality. This feeds into the psych of some and contributes to the desire to disrespect, make lewd comments, and in some extreme cases rape and physically abuse.

It also puts pressure on girls (and some guys) to be "sexy" in the eyes of these moguls, or cool, and act in a certain way.

Free speech is not something like this, challenging page 3 is actually more in line with the spirit of freedom of speech and expression, which can be legitimitely restricted to protect human rights, dignity and decency.
