Shocking Statistics on Muslims’ Poor Performance
“In 2003-2004, almost a third (31 per cent) of Muslims of working age in Great Britain had no qualifications – the highest proportion for any religious group. They are also the least likely to have degrees (or equivalent qualifications).” (http://www.statistics.gov.uk/focuson/religion/default.asp - published on 11 October 2004)
The statistics clearly illustrate that Muslims are severely underachieving in education compared to their counterparts and that we urgently need to devise strategies to reverse the trend. Muslim school governors are grossly under-represented due to the lack of concern in Muslim communities. They can serve as a voice for the Muslim community, and highlight issues which are particularly important and affect Muslim children directly, such as, the enhancement of academic achievement, provision of halal food, and the importance of prayer facilities etc.
School governors do not need to be parents, anyone over 18 years of age can be a governor. The Association of Muslim Governors (AMG) has been established to support Muslim children in the mainstream education systems by increasing the number of Muslim governors in schools, and increasing awareness of the importance of education within the Muslim community. AMG has already successfully doubled the number of Muslim governors in the London borough of Newham.
Why not become a governor and join us in raising the educational achievements of future generations?

This may make me sound like im a paranoid freak, oh what the heck; Islam is a religion Muslims are followers of that religion. When studies on academic achievement are carried out they refer to ethnic backgrounds or race i/e white, Bangladeshi, Pakistani,Indians, Africans, Jamaicans. Recently in the news i heard these stats and rather than referring to the ethnicity they referred to religion. I'm sure they really mean Bangladeshis' and Pakistanis'. The fact that these groups along with black/African/Jamaican ppl are under achieving is hardly a new finding. Economic, social and cultural pressures are a cause of it, not a lack of intelligence.
What is really ticking me off is why religion is mentioned. I can't ever imagine the headlines being Christians and Atheists are under/over achieving according to the latest ofstead reports. This is just another one for the hate campaign, painting Muslims as backward uneducated folks. I'm sick of it.
You don’t sound like a paranoid freak. I’d say you were correct in saying that social-economic factors are far more relevant that religion in assessing academic performance. People who live in poorer areas with under performing schools are inevitably going to fare worse that those who live in nice middle class areas.
Among the Muslims who live in my area in West London this is evident. It so happens that Somali, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Iranian and Turkish pupils tend to live in the less affluent areas and attend the worst schools. In contrast, the best performing primary school in my locality happens to be a school in which the majority of the pupils are from rich Arab families, who have the money to their kids to a good school.
The Muslim community must accept responsibility for the problems we have and leave this victim mentality (its all the kufs fault!). Rather than simply say the government is picking on us again, just read the website properly. I had a look and its clear that in 2001, the question of religion was asked for the first time on the census, and because Muslims responded thats how this data seems to have been compiled. I for one can accept the stats as credible, living in a Muslim area I know what a hole we have dug ourselves into.
I'm glad at last to see an organisation working in this field.
i dont doubt the figures im saying there's no need to take a religious slant on it. It seems as if everything is about religion of late. If we're living in a secular society then there's no need to refer to muslims as low achievers. If religion is taken into account what are the figures for christians, atheists, sikhs, hindus, jews, etc i'd like to know please. If other religious groups are not taken into account then how is it a fair and balanced report?
You either refer to ethnicity completely or refer to religious groups completely not half and half otherwise the results will be incorrect
btw somebody what are kufs?
I think the bro meant kafir.
what a nasty term :?
I might be wrong..
Religions got nowt to do with how thick or clever a child is. It depends on what kindoff school they go to, their family, friends, surroundings, motivation and lots of other things to.
I believe in a right to failure...
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
At least we fail in style!

Well done! You are exception!

You would have to be spectacularly thick to avoid getting straight A or A* grades these days.
An intelligent man never looks down on anyone.

If they are taught it as much as it is in islam it is likely to effect their acheivement.
Not really...

I no sum1 without a Maths GCSE but their still in uni and in their final year.
im not being funny but i thought we are doing much better now then we were before, im my sixth form apparently we are going against the national trends meaning those studying chemistry/physics/maths are on the rise and the number of ethnic minority girls in pos 16 education is also against the national trend too
O you who believe, If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm {Surah Muhammad7}
most people don't know much about Islam
Any idea how many non-muslims you have insulted?
GCSEs? you must be joking. Given an average intellect anyone, I repeat anyone, could obtain an A or an A* within two months on any of the 'soft' subjects without breaking into a sweat.
This is not a dig at Muslims and is more about the dreadful confidence trick being played on youngsters who actually believe that they are somehow cleverer than they actually are.
Try asking universities or employers just how much they value these useless qualifications.
By the way, I have a masters degree which wasn't difficult either - wake up and realise what's going on.
