The Propaganda War

The US is losing the propaganda war against al-Qaeda and other enemies, defence chief Donald Rumsfeld has said.

It must modernise its methods to win the minds of Muslims in the "war on terror", as "enemies had skilfully adapted" to the media age, he said.

Washington and the army must respond faster to events and learn to exploit the internet and satellite TV, he said.

Separately, President Bush said the US should not be discouraged by setbacks in Iraq and must realise it is at war.

"We shouldn't be discouraged... because we've seen democracy change the world in the past," George W Bush said.

However, he also used his speech in Florida to claim progress in the war on al-Qaeda.

Mr Bush said that slowly but surely the US was finding terrorists where they hid.

Correspondents say that in recent months victory in the battle for public opinion has become a new front for the Bush administration.

In a speech to the Council of Foreign Relations, Mr Rumsfeld said some of the US' most critical battles were now in the "newsrooms".

"Our enemies have skilfully adapted to fighting wars in today's media age, but... our country has not," he said.

Mr Rumsfeld said al-Qaeda and other Islamic extremists were bombarding Muslims with negative images of the West, which had poisoned the public view of the US.

The US must fight back by operating a more effective, 24-hour propaganda machine, or risk a "dangerous deficiency," he said.

Government communications planning must be "a central component of every aspect of this struggle", he added.

"The longer it takes to put a strategic communications framework into place, the more we can be certain that the vacuum will be filled by the enemy."

Well considering the Pentagon has previously been caught [url=http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/9D412AFC-5AFE-486E-A7B9-D5F1600D9... journalists[/url], I do not see how it could do any better. That is without changing its strategy, and not going into illegal wars...

I personally don't believe a word he's saying, it's just another game of playing dead and pouncing on the enemy when it's near. Can one really believe with all the technology and money and after 9/11 the american government is sitting quietly? I don't think so.

Another excuse to woo the American public and spend billions more on technology to anialate the rebelion against the American agression?

United States is presently engaged in 3 wars:

1. War on terrorists who attacked New York.

2. Iraq war.

3. Propaganda war.

Recently, the US has admitted that it has lost the the third war.

And we can all see how successful the first two have been.

Senators have been blasting the President on
the Iraq chaos, as well as on the lack of success in
hunting Bin Laden, who seems to be laughing at Washington.

President Bush made some major mistakes and mishandled the insurgency. Now he seems to be looking for
a way out of Iraq and save face during that run.

I think he needs to fire his advisors and get a new team who can think straight.

Number one is wrong. Those who attacked are already dead.

They are fighting the taleban, who shielded OBL, the person most likely responsible for coordinating, funding or something similar to initiate the attack.

LOL, he's too doopy to fire his advisors, what he's gna hav to do, is ask his advisors to hire some more advisors, and then when more have been hired, the old can be fired, but then the old advisors will hire themselves again cuz the president is doopy, i bet i'd beat him at a mathes test, my english is better, i have a larger vocabulary, my science is splendid, and we all know how little he knows about politics.

The American people must be the stupidist people on Earth, they call themselves "the civilised, educated world" and they let a hig school failure bluff his way into running their country. LOL, kinda funny, ima start call people who do summin stupid "american" from now on.

Razor. Are you racist ?

From what you said, I can only assume that you are prejudice against the ordinary American people.

Their President may be, as you put it, "doopy" but people are not to blame for his mistakes.

Racism was strictly forbidden by Prophet Muhammad.

Omrow

The people are to blame for electing him.

Before they had an excuse. This time they actually elected him.

In a democaracy, the people decide who should make decisions for them.

Its almost like bay'ah, but you can change your decision every few years.
