I gained 1 and half stones within a year Biggrin i know it doesn't sound like alot but it was hard for me to even put on one Kg. I am now officially out of the underweight zone.

Doing exercise increased my appetite and plus grew my muscles, a good diet helps too like taking in carbs and protein.

I hate skimmed milk i've always had whole milk. Make sure you eat breakfast aswell, eggs help Wink i even drank raw egg mixed with honey and a glass of milk(made me wanna vomit).

That's my advice anyway, just eat.

some said they eat veg and dont lose weight. truth is its all about the carbs and fat intake. ppl often overlook carbs but carbs make u put on weight a lot. so reduce carbs and fat specially bad fats, some ppl prefer to keep a tab on calories but i dont have the patience to count calories so i have cut out high carb foods. so how can i eat what i like in moderation foysol it doesnt work if u want fast results. if u wana remain with excess weight for years then yes it will work but i want it to come off fast. The only way is altering the diet. I mean my main food is rice and curry. now i cant eat lots of curry which contains the protein with tiny bit of rice its too rich id be sick, and i cant have a plate of rice its too many carbs. So i have to ditch my bangladeshi food at least for now.

i dont feel sorry for u foysol uff putting on weight thats the fun part! well ive lost 1/2 stone in 2 weeks im pretty pleased.

ocean i think you should get a mate to tag along with you like lily said go slightly out of town and you wont get any hassle, to eck with those ppl its none of their darn business what you do, i presume its the muslim lads and oldies that stare right?

note that comment about flab with saris i think the sari hides fat a great deal apart from the exposed belly women still look good in a sari as compared with other forms of clothing, its the way it hangs off the body. but my opinion maybe clouded by the fact im bengali, but i dont wear them on daily basis its an observation. i also think salwar kameez can have the same effect so long as theyre not the skin type sort.

“O my people! Truly, this life of the world is nothing but a (quick passing) enjoyment, and verily, the hereafter that is the home that will remain forever.” [Ghafir : 39]

I'm bengali aswell and all i eat is rice and curry, yet i still struggle to put on weight. Well now that my appetite has increased i'm doing ok and you're putting on weight is fun Biggrin

I used to really hate it when my mum and sisters used to wear saris but i guess it's ok if you cover up properly yet it still attracts attention. My little sister and my mum just wear jilbabs now anyway, you can get alot of nice jilbabs these days aswell, my little sister has like 20 or 30 of them.

@hajjar you should really try the jump rope/skipping it's not that hard once you catch the rythm of it. A word of warning though it will make you hungry then again all exercise makes you hungry which is great for me. Funny how exercising can help you gain or lose weight

People who move Dubai (or even Egypt for that matter), are known to put on the Dubai 'stone'.

Firstly, living in a desert means that no one ventures out the house during the day to go for a run/walk or ride a bike. It's even painful to walk from my car to my classroom.

Secondly, the food thats available here. Wow. Ruby Tuesdays, Steakhouse, Chilli's, Wagamama's, Thai, Indian, Chinese, Lebanese, Arab etc etc. Plus, there is a fantastic buffet/brunch culture here (and we're not talking about a Pizza Hut buffet) -, you have a enormous room dedicated to international cuisine from all over the world...you can easily spend up to 3hours in one of these buffets. And did I mention everything is halal? lol

Yeah, I eat a lot. Only cos I can. However, I try to make sure that I eat a lot of veg, fruit and milk etc for health reasons.

Should go to the gym (Dubai has a great gym culture) but I lack incentive. My husband is healthier than me, thats cos he has to work to maintain his figure - so watches his portions and goes to the gym up to 4times a week. That seems to work for him.

3 hours in buffet full of different type of food sounds like my kinda thing. Such hot countries like Dubai can't have too many overeight people can it? Then again with the food you get there i wouldn't be surprised but you would've thought they'd sweat it out in that heat.

I'm so hungry right now and reading your post doesn't exactly help me. I will go on holiday just to eat some great food.

Was watching a programme on obesity and I think Kuwait was in the top 10 ranking and a lot of arab states cos of what MuslimSister said but also cos u have someone there to do practically everything. The people in the programme didnt even have to get out of their car to get a take-away! someone would do the running for them lol. Also you the Kuwaiti people were entitled to $30,000 a year whether they worked or not! off topic, but I had to share lol.

Ive decided im gonna go gym people! As soon as the exams are over Biggrin
Id love to go cycling as well, but its too dangerous in London..where do u cycle Jim Bob??? I guess I could go park, but no fun riding in circles :/

But well done Hajjar! and Jim Bob! and everyone else! (I have no favourites Blum 3 ) Biggrin
All this talk about exercise and health is bringing out the dietitian in me lol!

and a raw egg shake Jim Bob???! gross! but i admire ur determination dude...

Although true, I have to add that the consequence of not eating healthily and not doing exercise for some people = eurgh.

on the flip side though - yeah people in the UAE are lazy, dont clean their homes, dont push their own prams, don't even fill up their own car with petrol - have someone else to do it for them etc etc

One thing that I do like here is that, personal grooming is another level. Thats why, every block of apartment has its own gym, every compound has its own gym for about five villas. So to go to the gym or visit the pool. I literally have to go to the ground floor of my apartment.

Also, its also not uncommon for people to hire out personal trainers here. So cos unlimited access to the gym is included in the rent and the cost of personal trainers is much more affordable, people do work work hard at keeping fit cos its all about the image here. I found that in the UK I really had to go out of my way to join any kind of fitness program...but on the flip side, I did walk a lot more in the UK.

Wish it was that easy here! Finding a place that suits me has kinda put me off i guess...how long have u been living in Dubai for then?

OH My Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. I AM moving to this WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, LOVLAYYY place.

Hm, talking about diets. There are some crazy diets out there. The tape worm diet, where you eat a friggin tape worm which eats your insides out, the Red Bull Diet (nasty stuff, Red Bull) where you drink gallons of it and lose crazy amount of weight and then die from heart problems. Etc etc.

You can ride a bike in London! Well actually it depends on where you live. Im a Bangladeshi too! Biggrin It's just I have a problem with people who don't cover up when they wear it. Like on Eid and you see girls folding the end bit up so it like a strip of cloth. I've worn a sari lots of times, Ive climbed trees with one on, it wasnt hard to cover up.

You're really good at making people feel guilty. -_-

Lol, no, I just had a desire to type it like that.

@Billz

You should be able to cycle anywhere around London, tis what i do. I understand though if you don't like riding around traffc etc. There's loads of other places to ride a bike around London though, places that are quiet and just nice to look at, that's if you don't mind a bit of off road cycling.

Oh yeah!!!! Guess what? I have finally decided to move on from the loss of my dear bike that ............ Cray 2 Anyway i have decided to find a new bike Biggrin i am back on the market(looking for bikes).

Men!

i bet you're eyes actually do that all day just like that emo Blum 3

I am what I am and I don't hide it. dude. and my eyes do alot more than just roll, they abduct, adduct, elevate, depress, extort, intort and interpret light.

i had an eye examination today and almost everyone working at this opticians was an asian.

anyway it's good to know your eyes are still working fine, just saying those muscles must get a good workout from all the rolling though
.

Good that you had an eye exam. Why're you telling me? and why do I care if all the staff at your opticians were asian...? I don't really care what colour someone is or of what race they belong etc etc

Yes I am quite glad I don't have a squint. DO you know how many muscles control the movement of the eye? 6 for each eye!

I'm just saying, something i noticed and thought i'd share Wink

Thanks for telling me how many muscles i have in my eye

They are outside the eye globe!

but its exactly the traffic that puts me off, theres crazy people on the road these days!
But what am I talking about, I dont even have a bike lol! Its just tht I used to live in Holland and its a real bike culture there, so I do miss it sometimes...

"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah, do hearts find rest"

Why do Imagine bikes to be red or blue or silver or black...ok any colour lol

That's it! I'm finding my skipping rope and gna skip everyday! Do you think 15mins is enough, as a starter atleast? And why do you need to watch youtube, normal skipping should be enough :/

Although my friend's a boxer and accuses the rest of us of not skipping 'properly'.

cause it's not skipping properly and you won't get a proper workout. watch how even the little girls skip in USA, they have some quick feet and good rhythm.

it's about not letting your whole feet touch the floor, as long as you can do that then it's fine and no pausing inbetween.

i'll be surprised if you could do 15 mins to begin with, if you haven't done it before then your legs and arms will most likely give up.

once you learn how to skip properly you will never forget. HAVE FUN Biggrin

your boxer friend is right. the skipping is different to playground stuff, much faster, and theres a lot of tricks you can do to make it fun. type in jump rope workout on youtube you'll be surprised.

i cant do 15 minutes more like 2 then i trip, but i keep doing it for 30 mins. trust me after a few minutes when you first do it you will be begging to quit. if you can do 15 mins high speed with no stops can be enough. but if you want a full work out i think its better to increase the time a little more.

if you wana take it up search for jump rope tutorials for beginners on youtube helped mee, main thing i learned dont jump high, try not to make too much noise, if you are you're doing it wrong. feet should leave ground like an inch no more.

p.s i think jump rope sounds better than skipping..skipping sounds amateurish?

Kind of...But Jump rope is AMERICAN! Embrace the british culture Biggrin have any of you watched the disney film Jump in- it combines boxing skipping and freestyle "jump rope" skipping... It looks pretty cool (the skipping/jump rope freestyle bit, not the film although that was okay too- bit cheesy though...)

Death is the end of time. Not the end of Life.

Smile Biggrin

i love jump roping (:P) its amazing. but if you hit your feet while turning that rope so fast. OH MY GOD THE PAIN! its like lashing yourself..literally...

but you just feel amazing, coz at some point your hand are turning (not your arm, hardly your hands, just wrist really) and your feet are lifting themselve by literally only the thickness of the rope and you're just standing there and thinking "aaaamaaaaziinngg... i'm soo coool" that's usually the bit where you lash your feet...

ahh..now i wanna jump rope..right now.....

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

the word jump rope makes me cringe, stop using it -_- ...It's an English based site...english please! Blum 3

I shall check out the tutorial vids. I need to find my skipping rope first though.

I used to JUMP ROPE Blum 3 old school on the play ground with a loooong skippin rope so ud have a 2 in 1 rope..if tht makes sense. But minus the singning..or was there singing? I canny remember...see this is why u have kids! So u can do stuff like this when ur a grown up! It all makes sense now..have a kid to be a kid (again)! Anyone like puzzles???
