paradise?

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

I said punishment. Paradise wouldn't be one.

There are two opinions on music.

One of them is that music per se is not haraam - it only is if the contents etc are haraam.

So if you listen the very small out of music out there that does not contain such haraam themes and content, according to this opinion, it wont be punished for.

Or if you want a lecture on hellfire and brimstone, hot rods will be put into the ears and puished so fart that they will burn the ear drums and pearce the brain and comeout of the other side. I just made that up.

Either way, getting obsessed with music is a bad thing IMO, but music in itself is not an issue. you can hear a bit. like once a month. seems more than enough.

I don't remember writing on this blog that "you can use your dumb imagination and write made up stuff"

I'm not depressed either

Good for you. What worked for you?

I never said I was depressed. But if you're saying music helped you to not be depressed?

 It's a bit obvious to state this but Music wasn't the only thing and I wasn't ever depressed either.

If you weren't depressed, then why did you write this out of nowhere:

The reason I'm not depressed (big time) is because of my love for music, I just like it...

?

Biggrin Because I THOUGHT it was relevant.

Nice to meet you Pheonix, do you burst into flames every other month?

Well I thought it was utterly irrelevant.
Didn't think you'd believe in mythology.

Ocean wrote:
Ah Mythology, I don't believe in it but I find it fascinating.

and my point still holds, I still like music.

Fine, and I never said 'I dislike music'. My only simple question was what are punishments for listening to music, but since you don't know what that means, start talking about depressions etc, you can ignore this and carry on like there was never a blog called "Music".

Woah, chill dude.

The point is simple: Music helps people to not be sad. It's relevant because on a forum people discuss ideas, and don't necessary stick to the question exactly because it's good to have ideas about it.

I think It depends on the music. A teacher once said to me anything is permissible if it brings you closer to Allah, don't know how true that is

yaaay ur back!

I agree

I LOVE music
except gangasta rap
its horrible
and the lyrics are really gross

it cheers me first thing in the morning on the way to work, listening to my ipod
and also
when im on the bus
I dont have to hear kids screaming etc

Quran recitation works the same, and even better

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

Quran might not necessarily work 'better'; for example with music if u lose concentration or start daydreaming it's not really a problem whereas we'r taught that we have to give the Quran it's due respect, thus meaning we should always concentrate on it as much as possible; when we'r on the bus looking out the window for our stop we cant possibly be doing this!
Of course one could listen to nasheeds on the bus... In which case that would count as music, no?
& if that's ok, where do we draw the line between halaal & haraam music? Surely that would purely be a subjective (i.e. flawed) way to do things

Don't just do something! Stand there.

Ya'qub is back!

i guess it all depends on your definition of "music". you seem to include nasheed in them.

i cant be bothered. i dont listen to anything on the bus. saying

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, having no partners. to Him belong all sovereignity and praise and He is over all things Omnipotent

a 100 times fill up my bus rides.

the reward:

  • freeing ten slaves
  • one hundred good deeds being written down for him
  • one hundred sins being removed
  • being protected during that day, until the evening, from the Shaytaan
  • from "more than a 1000 Sunan (sayings & acts of the prophet (pbuh) ) Every day and night. Compiled by Shaykh Khaalid Al-

and all the other morning and evening duahs.
    and the daydreaming
and the looking out the window.

lots of things to do instead!

edit: the "better" I meant was for the "cheers me up in the morning" thing Iram said.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
