Burka ban put to Commons by MP

I doubt it will get much support - the situation in the UK AFAIK is not that bad (yet?).

There will be people in favour of it, but I doubt they will be the majority.

Thanks for being so vocal! - u've raised some good points, and this is interesting too.

One request, when u post a story, could u, like, copy and paste the main gist of the story on here, and then provide the full link to the story underneath.

It will appeal to more people, I'm sure, who don't click on links out of habit.

Thanks

Don't just do something! Stand there.

im just so positively speechless at the responses of the British people.

Mr Hollobone, who previously likened wearing the garment to "going around with a paper bag over your head", said the ruling proved European politicians are out of touch.

He said: "The ruling clearly demonstrates that members of the council of the EU are out of touch with popular opinion.

am i reading this wrong or was he against the "burka" or niqaab, but then is saying that a law shouldnt be made against it?

^^if thats what he said then (Y).

Could you say that France is an extreme case of secularism? aka they are extremist.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

You're right to be speechless, it is a stupid thing to say, in Britain, for a British person.

But also be speechless at those other places where burkhas or in fact anything at all is imposed and where religious freedoms are restricted and it is not considered odd. To be honest I'm a lot more speechless about that because it's real there.

Felt just as real in France...

I think people dont know whats good for them. take me for example. if i was to have my way. i'd stay home watch cartoons all day and night. but thank god i got my mummy.

not everyone have their mum. and some dont want to listen to their mum (bad boys tututut) so we need something else. GOD!! YAY!!! and you know how your mum threatens you with grounding, cut on pocketmoney, extra chores etc... same applies here, God threatens you with all those scary punishments. But just like mum, if you do what He says, you wont get punished. <--thats how i see it and it worked so far.

and anyway god knows better than mums.

the lack of freedom, just some pseudo-muslim using religion as a mean to assert their lack of self-esteem, self-confidence etc... It's like blaming food for fat people!

And in my religion, if you put up with all this meanness, God'll reward you/punish the bad, oppressive guys. something to look forward to and to give you hope and will to keep on living.

I don't see it like that but we're cool. I just don't see the link.

That's cool. I agree we shouldn't put up with meanness, and this MP has through his idiocy or his bigotry arrived at a mean conclusion. I don't even know who he is though, and it won't work, so be speechless at the guy being an MP and saying that in either order but I don't think you should be speechless at your fellow Brits' reactions.

after experiencing france. It just feel SO weird that the British people could actually be total opposite, its SO cool! Biggrin I'm positively speechless.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

Smile

aah, positively speechless as in meaning speechless due to positivity and not meaning that you are really speechless (hinting at negativity).

As long as it's published free online and it's sourced properly its usually ok, as far as I know. It's not like this is a profit-making organisation.
maybe depends on the source of the news... if its published free online then there's no prolbem

There is plenty of latitude to source excerpts in citation or review but to copy chunks wholesale needs permission. Sometimes permission is implicit or expressed but for the site in question a number of revenue streams depend on original content provided at its cost, and it has no relationship to this site. But as things stand you'd get away with it.
