Almost defeated by a steam Iron. Almost.

Call this the first of many posts on technology. I will start on something a little more mundane than most technology.

You know how people say that it would be fab if they had a fridge that could talk? Well I don't. I like things to be simple.

When I was young I watched The Terminator. I know what happens when you give technology too much control. Don't people learn from such educational tools?

Which brings me nicely tom the new steam Iron we have at home. Simple it is not.
Took me a while to find out where the water went in from (the back - I almost had to ask! I did, but found it before I got a reply. I call that a no score draw.)

Instead of a dial for temperature/pressure with arbitrary dots and cloth type settings, this one has paddles. Paddles like you get on steering wheels in performance cars to shift gears. Why not just have a simple dial? That would work.

But I guess that would not allow for you to pretend you're driving an F1 car when Ironing... A major down side.

And as for performance - it works. Is there more that can be said about a steam iron? They all have the same performance curve - brand new, they glide, iron easily. Wait a few months and it is clogged from bits/limescale that are left behind from repeated fillings from tap water. Performance suffers. Cleaning does not always help. Eventually you get a new one. It feels like new again. Because it is.

7/10 - Just because I can.

They do?:S

At the present moment the good thing about modern technology is that if its not behaving you can give it abuse (whether it be verbal or physical) and it wont respond back. Now imagine having a fridge that talked. If you gave it abuse it would give you abuse right back :O

I use an old style iron (i.e. doesn't have built in steam/water - i don't mean you heat it up on the stove) I use a water-squirter along with it. It work much better than the kind admin is mentioning because it doesn't get glogged up with limescale etc.

My mum's is the complete opposite - it descales itself?!?!

Don't just do something! Stand there.
