Happy Nouroz

I would like to say Happy Eid Mubarak too Muslims here.

And Happy Blessed year to non-muslims.

We celebrated Eid. Nouroz is a festival as important as other Eids.

It's a holiday for all Shia muslims. Many Sunni muslims also celebrate it.

never heard of it could you explain further please.

The only thing that comes to mind is that it is the start of Rabi-ul-Awal maybe he is meaning the Mawlid-un-Nabi (saw)?

On that note Milad-un-Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) mubarak to everyone Biggrin

Apparently originally a celebration of the first day of spring.

Later rededicated to to celebrate the day when the Imam Ali (ra) became the fourth Caliph.

Never heard of til now.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

..on a side note, the Shia community celebrate mawlid on 17th Rabi al-Awal, as opposed to the 12th Rabi al-Awal..

May Allah shine sweet faith upon you this day and times beyond. May your heart be enriched with peace, and may your home be blessed always. Ameen.

Even son of Satan himself, Preisdent Bush, wished muslims happy Norooz.

Happy Norooz

"I send greetings to those celebrating Norooz," President Bush said.

"Norooz is a special time of thanksgiving and celebration when millions of people around the world who trace their heritage to Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, India and Central Asia welcome the new year," Mr. Bush explained.

Some brothers and sisters wanted to know more detail about this festival.

Shias read special prayers on this Holy day:

At the time of mid-day (Zuhr), special prayers should be preformed. This prayer is four (Rakats) rendered in two-two- rakats each.

In the first Rakat one should recite after
“Al-Hamd” ten times “Inna Anzalna.”

In the second rakat after “Al-Hamd” ten times Sura no 59 “Kul Yaahyuhal Kafroon “

In the third rakat after “Al-Hamd” ten times Surah Ikhlas (no. 62)

In the last rakat after Al-Hamd Sura no 63 “Kul Aaoza be-rab-ul Falaq” and ten times surah no 64. “Kul Aaoozo-be-rab-innas”

After namaz one should prostrate and thank God for his bounties. Inshallah he will be safe for all the troubles for the whole year.

Why Shia Celebrate Noroz:

Significance of this Festival:

This is the day when Allah (SWT) took the Covenant from the souls of the humans that they should consider Him as One without any companion in prayers and that they should also believe in the Holy Prophets and the fourteen Masoomeens (the sin-less).

This is the day when the Holy Spirit entered the body of Adam and he started praying to Allah (SWT).

This is the day when the sun’s rays produce fruits and the blowing winds cause flowers to blossom and create bounties.

This is the day when the Arc of Noah rested on the mountain of Jodi

This is the day when Allah (SWT) resurrected seventy thousand dead souls who had died of plague. The prophet Hisqueel had prayed to Allah (SWT) for their life and Allah (SWT) asked him to recite a few holy words and sprinkle the water on their bones. The prophet did this (as described in Chapter II Buqra) and the dead were alive by the will of Allah (SWT). It therefore became a tradition in the remembrance of this event to sprinkle rose water or water on each other and take bath on this day.

On this day Gabriel brought the first revelation to the Prophet (SAW) and this was the beginning of his prophethood.

The Holy Prophet (SAW) entered Kaaba on this day and with the help of Hazrat Ali on his shoulders cleared the Holy Kaba form 360 idols.

On this day the Prophet Ibrahim was thrown in the fire of Namrood and the fire was extinguished by the will of God, and the fire was converted to a safe garden for Ibrahim.

On this day the Prophet Ibrahim destroyed the idols of Namrood.

This day corresponds to 18th of Zulhijja, the 10th year of Hijra calendar the Prophet (SAW) raised Hazrat Ali on his arms on the occasion of his last Hajj and declared Hazrat Ali as his successor by the command of Allah (SWT). He also said “Of whomsoever I am Moula Ali is also his Moula”

Hazrat Ali was unanimously elected as the fourth Caliph on the day.

Hazrat Ali gained victory on the Karjites on this day

Our Holy twelfth Imam will appear near the wall of Kaaba on this day.

The Holy Imams will return back to the world on this day

The sixth Imam then said Oh! Moulla ibn Khais this is the day of our friends. The Iranians observe this day with reverence and you Arabs have forgotten it.

Ayatollah rightly named America as "Great Satan".

erm... correct me if I am wrong but would Nouroz not be through a solar calendar?

afterall with the lunar calendar, the next years is about ten days earlier, and this would cause issues of the first day of spring changing every year.

That actually detracts from your post. You may hate him. Everyone else may do too, but such sentiment can detract from your arguments. I did not know about nouroz. Neither did many others. buig deal. Those who celebrate it will celebrate it. Those that don't won't.

A second question. How do you get those surah numbers? are they revelatory order or something else?

Finally, @amal, there are many dates given for Mawlid. Some say 12th, some others. I was nto aware of 17th, but I have haerd 9th, 10th and 11th aswell, with someone once posting that 9th was actually the majority opinion.

jazakAllah for your response.

Do you know what happens if it falls on a Friday? do they just pray the customary 2 rakats for Jumu'ah, or do they pray the four? Or both?

I heard some Shi'a always combine prayers, if so, do you know if they would do this on Norooz too?

Also:

I thought this happened on Lailat-al-Qadr (Ramadan 27 or thereabouts)

thanks for any info
