School Governors Matter – Be A Governor!
Date: Saturday 23th December 2006
Time: 6pm – 9pm
Venue: Al-Hijrah School, Cherrywood Centre, Burbidge Road, Birmingham B9 4US
Presenter: Tahir Alam - Education Spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain, Training Director at Al-Hijrah Training Academy, Specialist in School Governance.
There are nearly 500,000 British Muslim children in full-time state school education. The challenges that face Muslim pupils in terms of academic attainment and how their spiritual, and religious needs are being met should be a source of concern for all of us.
As part of a national programme and strategy, The Association of Muslim Governors (AMG) have organised a series of seminars with the aim of bringing about real change through greater participation from the Muslim community in education. Through presentations, discussions, and workshops, this seminar will explore:
- The vision for Muslim education
- School education framework
- School governance - roles and responsibility
- Why Muslims must be involved
The first seminar will be held in Birmingham, followed by London, Leicester, and Bradford in the coming weeks (details TBC). It is intended that seminars will take place (insha-Allah) in all Local Authority areas with a significant or high composition of Muslim pupils. If you would like to book a seminar in your locality please contact AMG.
Please note that spaces are limited. If you would like to reserve a place, please email info@aomg.org.uk or text 07960536170 with your name, contact details, and governor status (existing or new school governor). Refreshments will be served.
For further queries please contact AMG.
