I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this but the video somewhat showed more of poverty and extreme weather conditions rather than the sort of "violence" i have in mind when I think about violence.

this was about the poor so there needed to be a strong background of "poorness". the locust "extreme weather condition" is the violence. it storms across the place like a hurricane or in this case a locust invasion.
its a bit difficult to understand the metaphor because we've neverexperenced or very often heard about the effect of locusts swarming around the place.
