First Saudi stops oil exploration in order to "save the wealth for our successors" and then they also are preparing to sign a civilian nuclear power cooperation deal with France.
Am I being a little silly or does this hint at them running out of oil?
(I don't buy the idea that they would be looking to protect their long term future by limiting their current sales of oil.)
Well when OPEC first came into being they asked all of the oil producing countries to tell them how many billions of barrels of oil they had, whilst also letting it be known they would force countries to limit their production to maintain the longevity of supply.
And what happened? Every oil producing nation vastly increased the estimated size of their oil reserves. Allowing them to produce more oil and get the profits now instead of a few generations later.
