It is not as if the wisher thinks that the person will get something outside the control of Allah (swt) [because there isn't any such thing]?
Well why say 'best of luck'/'good luck' if you believe that Allah (swt) is control of everything?
manners.
Better that than saying "you're gonna fail!" because that is what you mean - bar something you are not aware of, the person has a high likelihood of failing in the task.
I would define "Luck" as anything that is out of my control. As for the dictionary meaning, I would qualify it. Just like terms have different meanings in lay terms and in scientific circles, the terms can have different meanings for muslims and Non-muslims. As for the dictionary meaning, under that definition (no matter if you believe in God Almighty, or don't), there is no such thing as luck as everything has a cause and consequence. Everything.
@ 'Ed - you are SHOUTING AT PEOPLE WHILE TELLING THEM TO CHILL OUT. NOT COOL - ALSO A LITTLE HYPOCRITICAL AS THE TEXT IS IMPLYING THAT YOU ARE DOING WHAT YOU ARE TELLING OTHERS NOT TO DO.
Oh, and people we should heed the warnings of Judge Mez. maybe take this discussion into a new topic?
