There is a call asking for government to get involved in this issue and force the mosques to modernise.
Do we want this?
What are the benefits? drawbacks?

Cant see it working.
what would they do?
some mosques will resist their help no doubt, others will get accused of being sell-outs to the government.
will the governemnt start to dictate what classes, lessons etc are allowed and not?

I think there are certain circumstances where the Government needs to become involved with Mosques, particularly surrounding the issues of Child Protection.
I work within the Child Protection arena and often find that Mosques are so far behind Child Protection Procedures that I’m often embarrassed!! Our agency has tried several times to work with the Mosques around our area; however the Mosques just place obstacles in the way!
The difficulty we then have is that when certain investigations take place, due to the lack of knowledge and understanding the Mosques have around Child Protection issues, they often become defensive and refuse to co-operate, which in effect make it worse for them as whether they like it or not, when agencies become involved, Mosques don’t really have much choice! Its the same for schools, churches, scout clubs etc. they all have to comply with Child Protection Procedures!
Child protection? In Mosques?
Frankly there are cases of abuse in Mosques, less so nowadays. I think little boys have more to fear in a Church than in a Mosque. Not to say it doesn’t happen in Mosques.
As for slapping or hurting a child……. lolssssssss
The age old saying/cliché, it never did me any harm when I was a lad!!

Lol!
I take your point in that "it never did me any harm", however, I suppose the bottom line is that it is now illegal, there are far more effective ways to punish a child as oppose to using a cane!!! And yes it does go on.
In an era where even supermarkets are expected to have Child Protection Procedures, I don’t see any reason as to why Mosques should not comply!!!
I’m not just referring to the registered Mosques but also the back street terraced houses which teach up to 50 plus kids within two hours!!!
i personally think there is nothing wrong with a little discipline it stops them turning into spoilt buggers. However saying that there are some parents who take it a bit too far!

Some people work better under pressure.
You can bang on and on to certain people about a specific issue and it’ll fall on deaf ears…however, the moment you apply the pressure, get external influences involved, suddenly you’ll see result straightaway.
It’s not nice to have to do it this way, but unfortunately; this is the only way some people will listen.
