Ya'qub: do people call you a revert or convert and which one is correct?

I would personally say revert in an islamic context due to people being born muslim until they are baligh however in non-islamic context he is a convert.

i wasn't asking you! shoo

anyway, you're wrong in calling them reverts.

why? please dont take this in an agressive tone i am curious

I prefer 'convert', but don't really mind either way tbh. If someone asks me 'how I reverted' or whatever, I will use that term so to make them feel at ease!

Some non-Muslims see the term 'revert' as arrogant and I don't want to come across as that. Plus, I would call someone a revert if the went back to the Religion they were bought up as, not to the 'state' that they were in at birth.

All plants and animals are 'Muslim' in that they submit to the will of Allah (swt), this is like the case of new-born babies; they do not have free-will and some name it that they act solely on 'instinct'. Whereas for me when a person 'chooses' a brand-new religion he/she will 'convert' to it.

But its not the most important issue to me - although I know some people who get quite jealous. One brother stormed out of the mosqur because someone insisted on saying 'convert'!!

The best term for me is 'Muallaf', because this is sunnah. This is how my close friends refer to each other when speaking together.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said every person is born in a state of fitra. many muslims take this hadith to mean that every child born is a muslim, wrong. the child is raised by the parents and islam is introduced to them and then later do they become muslim. so the concept that when a non muslim accepts islam they come back to their original religion is wrong cz there was never any religion in the first place. so they are converts and not reverts as they didn’t revert back to being a muslim. read this in a book by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf a while ago so don’t know how accurate what i wrote is, but you get the drift.

The tune sounds very similar to an Indian song, anyway....

I was listening to Shaykh Anwar Al-Awlaki's lecture and he was taking about how everyone is born as a Muslim but people sign the contract and others decline. I think that's how he put it.

Used to, but kicked that habit ages ago.

You listen to them songs when you go past the videos shops, go into an asian-infested business, asian boys driving around with lovey dovey bolllywood songs (yes it does happen).

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

About that little dispute on a locked thread - I'll leave it at that, and this is continuing in a private conversation with the person concerned.
