Well The current negotiation about whaling are going on atm.
SOme countries want to keep the ban on commercial whaling. Others want to remove the ban.
WHat do you lot think about it?
I think its an apt discussion, as you were really interested when that whale was stuck in the Thames.
...whaling? :?:
Hunting whales for consumption. Currently it is illegal, but some countries hunt for 'scientific purposes' selling the meat on...

There are a few articles on the right hand side aswell...
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
I think whaling should be allowed for third world countries only so they can feed their rising population.
Any thoughts on that?
They will require equipment. Boats to reel the whales in. As well as a coastline.
And most poor countries are in hot climates. Most fish will probably spoil pretty quickly, let alone such large fish.
Besides apparently it does not taste too good.
It would be cheaper for them to actually grow some foodm or go for smaller fish.

Yeah that's true, I wasn't thinking about the equipment and stuff.
Growing crops is also a problem as they are hit with droughts badly or the insects eat the crops.
But if they got a coast line (which is a must for whale fishing), then there are probably to extract water, remove the salt and use it for agriculture.
There is still the insect problem though... I would not reccomend going down the road of GM Crops where you will have to buy seeds for multinational corporations for ever and ever... They are designed NOT to produce seed. Besides the health issues will not be known til years after large scale consumption, when it'll be too late.

That reminds me. Thames water have applied for a drought order because it hasn't been raining enough. Can't they just remove the salt as you say, filter the water and use it as the water we get through our taps.
I heard that they said that it's too expensive. I also heard that they are running trials and if successful they will get a bill passed through parliament to try and do it on a bigger scale.
So you think GM crops have side effects?
I don't trust them... something about square water-melons just doesn't seem right to me...
lol.
And its the fact that nature made a product over thousands of years. Man ate it for thousands of years.
Man started avoiding stuff that was poisonous.
Now with GM crops it is not possiblw to have the same amount of quality control.
Mind you, we soon may be forced to eat GM Bananas. It's a seedless crop that has not changed for millenia.
Now apparently there isa diesease spreading which may kill it off. (I remember reading 'within ten years'.) Now Banana is my favourite fruit after Pakistan imported mangoes (Mangoes from other countries taste more like peaches!). It alld epends on wether there was any truth to the story, or was it a play by some multinational corporation trying to scare us into eating GM bananas.

I think square shaped melons look quite cool.
I love mangos and you're right in saying the pakistani imported ones are the best.
I used to eat bananas before but as they give me tummyaches I've decided to stop eating them.
