Burnt Out

Salaam

I feel burnt out. I’ve had so much on my plate these last few weeks that it’s now taking its toil…and things are going to get even more crazy when I start Uni and start working again in the next few weeks.

I’ve had to go through a health test as part of my enrolment for the PGCE course. I found that I’ve lost a few pounds in weight and may have become anaemic.

I love keeping my mind active; I love being involved in stuff. I’m highly strung at times and dislike being idle and lazy. But at the same time, I’ve always considered it very, very important to look after my health.

We must all feel exhausted at times.

SO, what do you guys do when you want to build up your strength again, are there any timeless Asian sayings that you think work?

What are the best vitamin tablets to take? And does drinking raw eggs really give you strength?

And to build strength back up…should ones diet be more focused on proteins, fat or carbohydrates?

You know that stuff that mums take out of meat when they’re making Biryani (its called yakhni I think)…what is that good for?

Are there any nutritionists or doctors in board?

Any tips, suggestions will be appreciated.

Is your diet low in iron?

Good sources of dietary iron include:

Meats such as beef, especially liver
Fish, especially clams and oysters
Poultry, eggs
Whole grains such as rice
Legumes such as nuts, peas and beans
Potatoes
Dried fruits
Leafy green vegetables, especially spinach
Enriched pastas, breads, wheat products and fortified cereals

Some of the vitamins tablets are fat-soluble and are much better absorbed if taken with a meal.

Eat fish twice a week. Works for me.

If all that doesn't work, and at the end of the week you still feel burnt out, then put yourself in a new box of matches. And just hang in there for another enlightening moment.

And please please lay off the eggs.

Raw eggs !!

Jesus H Christ !!!!!!!!

By the way, your mum makes a good drink. Drink it up. Its very healthy.

Its probably the only drink in the world that is actually cooked.

Omrow

heres some sayings that help me get through my vigorous gym routine

no pain no gain

if i can still physically do it im not tired

Where there's a will there's a way

A man full of courage is also full of faith

the extra mile is between my ears

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.

there all copied from somewhere but i cant remeber where

iron tablets can give you constipation or make you feel nauseous, according to my doc. So it's best to try get your vitamins from your food if possible. If you must use the tablets see it as a short term solution, try and change your eating habits for the long term. Try a side plate of steamed veg, trust me it works. When i can't be bothered to make it i get these steam packets cost more but convenient. The best ones are "birds eye steamed veg" Best pack is the one with sweet corn, brocolli, cauli florets, and baby carrots. Eat it with your normal lunch or supper, goes very well with currys. They come in individual packs, you just pop it in microwave, open and eat it all, counts as one portion of your five daily fruit&veg. Other days try mixes of different lettuce with some french salad dressing, yum yum.

i know someone who has above average levels of iron and other vits in their body hint hint Wink

Omrow is right about the fish, doc always says eat oily fish at least twice a week. Obviously i'm different twice a week isn't enough for me Lol Wink

Wouldn't advise raw eggs, salmonella, bird flu, isn't wise really

Ok so fish is def needed in my diet...other then fish fingers or cod with chips maybe once a month I don't really eat fish. :?

I'll get back the steaming veg too...I used to eat steamed veg for lunch daily, but then out of laziness I stopped cooking for myself.

I also made dad buy a juicer a while back...someone told me that beetroot juice would be high in iron...I tried it once and it was well, yucky :?...and it stained my lips and fingers for a whole day.

easy ways to get fish if you're not bengali:

1)Masala fish easily available in butchers these days. I'm pretty sure it's nile perch. Anyways drizzle with little oil, loosely cover in foil pop in oven on med heat for 30 mins or til it's piping hot, serve with salad rice and mint sauce...that's how i like it Wink

2)Sardines or Pilchards in tomato sauce ( i reckon pilchards is better). (deffo an oily fish)Smelly but tasty. Add half an onion, few spices, 1-2 more tomatoes, corriander, little water, dash in the can, tiny squeeze of lemon, easy meal. With rice, or roti if you reckon it goes well with it.

3)Stir fried rice with prawns or with noodles, very easy dish.

4)If you like pies, or casseroles. Fish pie recipes plenty available online uktvfood.co.uk. or good old delia smith do a search on her i've not tried any yet apart from the ones i;ve had at school.

5) Mackeral is a good oily fish apparently i only know a bengali recipe for that sorry. You can get lots of english and french recipes. you just stuff the mackeral wrap in foil and cook. That would be easy right, check out the website below.

6) Scampi is nice duno how to serve it other than with a squeeze of lemon juice, with chips etc.

Look up uktvfood.co.uk they usually have some quick and easy recipe ideas. Everyone is busy these days things that are gona take an hour to make it no good to someone working and studying.

Talking of fish don't suppose you've ever had fish kofta? My mum makes prawn kofta curry, or Seethul Maas (benga fish) kofta curry. Trust me they're delicious. Specially the latter one, but that fish is very expensive and hard to clean of bones so it's not something we have often Sad

I better stop i'll be talking of fish all day Lol

P.S always wanted to have lobster, my sis in law told me they eat it back home, it's a delicacy. Now i have to have it, but is it permitted, disliked or prohibited?

Lol-thank you sweety for the fish overview.

I'll try number 3 and number 6...I really am not a huge fan of fish, unless its steamed or coated with batter.

how many girls here (other then me) still get chased round the house with milk/fruit and breakfast?

Salaam

Referring to the Salafi’s and the HT’s Sheikh Abdul Murad said regarding their zeal and enthusiasm that the initial passion gained in ones early 20’s usually loses steam in their late 20’s (basically they get burnt out).

How true is this of those who may not necessarily be involved in such work, but are generally very active in Islam anyway?

When one is young, they have SO much energy and obviously it’s easy for then to be active as they have no responsibilities …Do people generally dwindle when they hit their 30’s?

I was talking to someone a few weeks back and he was telling me that he used to be really active in Islam when he was in his early 20’s but ever since he became busy with work… its all about work now.

That’s understandable…however, I personally know of full time consultants and mothers of young kids who are SO active in Islam and their age or responsibilities hasn’t diminished their passion for working for Islam…

But are they the exception or the norm?

I’ve always believed that if ones heart is inclined somewhere they’ll MAKE time for their passion….regardless of how busy they may be.

What do you guys think regarding this burnt out issue?

Wasalaam

I have V bad diet - too much chocolate, im lazy with food i never think if its healthy or not i just eat it. I gotta stop that though!

i think its natural that you get burn out from lots of things later in life

like for example, a lot of things im doin now i dont expect to be doing in a few years

your responsibilities increase, and time unfortunately is fixed - u dont get any more than before

at the moment its prob easier for us, coz despite how busy we may think we are - we do have a lot of free time on our hands

obviously there are exceptions to that - some people are super-humans!!!

but as long as your passion and love for deen doesnt die out - then its all good

you can be active, but just in different ways - i.e. hold a few less talks - but concentrate on raising your own kids islamically!!

fact tho - u cant do the same, or more, in later life

unless you did nothing originally Lol

He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

Thats depressing thinking Fresh...its all about going forward and not stopping or doing less in the future.

I think it all depends on ones intention and how much they want to do something.

Man is driven by his intentions.

i really am turning into Admin arent i? :?

nah seriously tho......ur responsibilities grow and ur lifestyle changes

and its not neccesaary that u become less active, you just become active in diff ways............i think once u hav family, teaching your kids at early age becomes priority
