Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
@Lollywood - you also ignore the enefits of bringing up people with ethics and morals and the benefits of such things in THIS world.
Patience, a lack of greed, avoiding sloth etc are all things with real value in this world, are all things taught by religion.
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
the humanitarisn side of faith along with rules for this world - they are not there for no reason, but to help better communities and societies and to force people to go to a higher standard.
That is all for better lives in this world.

Each person and culture has it's own interpretation of ethics and morals

So they shouldnt be taught?

They should be taught, but without the religious aspect

Why?
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
to the why add the how.
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
Why
Because I think it's child abuse to frighten a child about hell and heaven at a young age when their mind is still underdevelopment
to the why add the how.
Just tell them that these are the things that make a person a good person
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
do you think its child abuse to tell them that if they stick their finger in a plug socket, they will get electrocuted?
How about running infront of a bus may get them hurt "real bad"?
What about playing with knives? or fire?
A part of bringing up children is to teach discipline too and this cant always be done without warning them of the dangers.
and no, its not child abuse to tell people that hell exists. It may however be child abuse to tell them that santa does.

Iβm sure it can be done in a non aggressive way

Would you let your child decide whether he wants to watch porn or not??
or whether he wants to go to school or not?
or to befriend drug peddlers, muderers or rapist?

But in this world you are bound to get the reward for your efforts almost instantly or at least compared to heaven, when it comes to heaven their is no guarantee of anything itβs just blind belief you have to go by and hope that it ends up being correct
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child? th
If you dont hold to that, that is your choice.
Let other intelligent people choose differently and to educate their children and bring them up with faith.
Believing in God is the most logical choice there is.

Errmmm are you sure you're muslim? Do you understand the meaning of believing. If you was muslim you wouldn't be hoping heaven exists, muslims believe that heaven exists. I don't know about you but i certainly don't believe it blindly, i came to believe through ration. Islam is the most rational explanation for life, through my rational understand of the proof of a creator (Allah) i came to His book (the Quran). In the Qur'an (the words of Allah) He tells us about heaven. So it exists...
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child? th
Lollywood, we didn't just come out of thin air, nor did the first atom. Allah (swt) in his wisdom created it and us.
Could you prove that there is no heaven,, could you prove that you will NOT be rewarded for your good deeds and be answerable to your sins.
The signs around you are evidence that Allah (swt) exists and everything in nature has a programmed pattern and has purpose as Allash has decreed it to be.

That's what you've been told to believe
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
If you want to have a genuine and open minded discussion on the existence of God, then by all means we could start a brand new topic.
Let me ask you, and please answer honestly without the rhetoric, which doesn't actually help your points. Does it feel right, to you, if a person can live a really decent and good life and be walked and but die and get no real reward for it?
Since you seem to have a problem with the concept of Allah and heaven, surely it's up to you to prove that there's no usch thing.
Please answer without saying: "That's what you've been told to believe" because that's not even a point, let alone an argument, unless you're trying to disprove what I'm saying.
According to you, what happened before the Big Bang?

This may be the most stupidest thing you have ever written.
Dude- understanding Urdu doesn't make you a muslim. It's a LANGUAGE. Not a Religion.
Jeeez.
Btw,If you were a parent, you would want what's best for your child, and as a Muslim, you know Islam is clearly the best choice... Why would you let your kid delve in other faiths that may bring harm to them?
Re: Is following religion a choice for a child?
there's NO cushion. we've tried catching you while you're falling to break your fall but you dont wanna be caught.

What's right for me may not be right for my children if I decided to have any
I've not seen the video but replying to the question, nothing is a choice for any child regardless of their parents faith. You wouldn't let an infant choose what they wanted to eat why? They may eat something they're allergic to i.e nuts. They may eat something too hard for them to chew i.e an apple. In the same way you nourish your childs soul with what you as parents believe are good moral values to live by, be that christian, islamic, bhuddist whatever. Leaving an immature child to make life changing decisions when they are immature is stupid and neglectful to say the least. Those people who say let them decide when they're older, i say what do you teach ur kids before maturity? Atheist values, agnostic values secular values? The truth is u will be using one or more of these so effectively u are still indoctrinating them, you believe you are being fair on the child, but i think you are leaving the child open up to more confusion as they get older. Such children usually reach maturity and like their parents choose no religion. so was this really through the childs own choice?, or indoctrinating them from a young age? i think its the latter.
That's what I was getting at π And agreed with the rest of the post too
