Punished children should be punished! Surely even God does not punish children, advice and love us what the need love first
?

true true, but they usually dont give a damn and facing the consequences is more likely to do that then love and advice. I really can't see those kind of people who are in gangs etc listening to someone talking to them lovingly...

But then it goes back to things like primary socialisation, the socio-economic stuff and other factors - which all need to be considered to tackle this problem.

'those kinds of people' that's a gruesome statement methinks you might take that back!!!!

laila — Fri, 25 Nov 2011 - 00:16

Oh dear you don't see how that statement is completely out of order and a gross discrimination a bigotted remark one that I would be totally disgusted as a Muslim to ever own

Who are 'those people ' the wretched and the poor and who are you or me their betters and their superiors can't you see how disgusting that remark is
walking around with a knife is not the same as jumping over a wall.

Kids need discipline and control - you cant overlook everything, especially if the habit could end up with the death of someone.
I don't know about where you grew up, but the people I knew in school who carried knives did because they were really scared, not because they wanted to scare, and would never have used them.

and now they're grown up, they have jobs and families.

imagine one of them was chosen for a 'random' stop-and-search by police.. they're life would be f'd by now.

the key word in the title is 'mandatory'... that means that, no matter what the circumstances are, they will get a minimum sentence. remember, this is without even using the knife.... its not like in the current system people who get found guilty of stabbings get a nice cup of tea and a sit down.

things seem like they're turning into minority report,

From what you said in this topic and also the belief in NWO...you seem to feel victimised. *If* you do then remember blaming things on others never helps. Also eveyone has the ability to make a change as Allah swt has given us free will and had told us that if we don't make an effort to change then no change will come about. So the blame culture is useless.

I did not mean to be 'holier than thou' as you implied. I mentioned the gang culture - in which criminal activity is obviously present. I don't take part in crime and crime is wrong therefore I think I can claim to be better.

What goes on in their hearts and whether Allah sees something in them which is better, only He knows but I was obviously was just talkin about that. And just like you say you think you need to make friends Whih are better for your imaan, I would not class such people as those who will benefit me or my imaan so, yes, judging by their actions(what else would u judge by?) I would stay away.

have you ever heard the phrase: 'there but for the grace of God go I'
Nope
It means that when you see someone in a worse situation that you are, remember that Allah (swt) could have placed you a lot worse off in the world, and you are not responsible for your own good fortune.
I disagree children are product of society parents you me etc we are to blame
It's the children who make the decision of carrying a knife so they should get the ultimate blame at the end of the day - parents don't have much control nowadays because parents are scared that the little darlings might end up suing us if we say anything
plus a little risk taking is now called anti social not good gov has too much power they need to ease up we can't all conform to one bland ideal not on not on my watch any way. I shudder to think where we'll be in 50?years time if this continues, schools are already like military camps where they are taught what the state wants them to be taught

It depends on what kind of risk we're talking about
