Birthdays...HARAAAAAAAAM???

No im joking about the title, I just wanna find out what you guys think of it and wether you celebrate it and if its HARAAAAAAAAAAM!

There seems to be some sort of trend going on these days- everythings haram

Music is haram
Birthdays are haram
Reading harry potter is haram
Eating chocolate is haram

basically we're all haram

See, now youre getting the hang of it!

Behold...Me!

i do celebrate it and dont

meaning no party or anything , just get a card, presents, food etc...

hmm....

THAT's why I saw you coming out of 'Strings' at 4 in the morning!

What was I doing there, you ask?

I was asking for directions for somewhere away from there...

Don't just do something! Stand there.

What is it with you people and labeling everything haraam? This is haraam, that is haraam. You're not happy unless theres something thats haraam.
Instead of focusing on things you cant do. Maybe you should focus on things you can do. There would be less problems that way.

Birthdays are great, we celebrate everyones (family, friends etc).

Salam for you my dear friend Yes birthday celebration is not known in Muhammad pbuh's hadits and in the Qur'an.Ulamas told us that certain good doings which were not made by Muhammad pbuh era while its condition were there ,is called bid'ah.Muhammad pbuh knew his own birth day,and the birthdays of his children and his gandchildren bu Muhammad pbuh did not celebrate it..So in line with that statement,if we celebrate our own birthdays are haram and it is treated as bid'ah But if we introspect ourselves on the birthdays to know how are our good doings and bad doings during the last year and we try hard to avoid the similar bad doings in the future it is not a bid'ah because its intention is good.We do not allow to celebrate our birthdays by blowing fire on the wax candle and with luxurious birthday party. just similar made by the kafirs..

(by the way, i didnt write this)

Behold...Me!

No presents for YOU this year, then.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

By that logic because the holy prophet (pbuh) didnt travel by bus or take the train neither should we, bcoz that would be bid'ah.

What do you think mawlid nabi is? Its basically the celebration of the prophet (pbuh) birthday.

No

If you make birthdays into some kind of religious event, or saying something like 'If you are born on such-and-such a day/month/year, then you have such-and-such personality' then it is 'introducing new elements in faith', which is haram.

eating a nice meal with your family is NOT haram! Giving presents to friendn is NOT haram! These actions are recommended for us by our Prophet (saw)!

Actually, the prophet saw disliked people giving gifts even on EID!

Its a good thing we're not talking about Eid then. Eid is a festival, birthdays are not.

Well that explains it.

What is a birthday, but the celebration of a persons life and the expression of gratitude to Allah (swt) for all his blessings given to that person. Last time i checked expressing your gratitude to Allah (swt) is not haram but is something thats encouraged.

Therefore aslong as you're NOT doing anything that may displease Allah (swt) theres absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating someones birthday. The eating of food, the giving of a gift are not haram.

sumaiya , are you here to cause a riot

u are talking about issues which you dont have knowledge on, as these are issues for ulema to debate.

the issue of bid'ah is detailed and has many conditions. uLEMA HAVE DISCUSSED THIS IN DETAIL. they have classified bidah in to different types. so by you just cutting and pasting from shaykh google doesnt help!

Salam

OK, who have you been listening to? Gifts are different from bribes, gifts are a way of showing kindness to people. Sumaiya, mate, please don't go around telling non-Muslims this, that'll be what I call poor Dawah.

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

why is everyone against me?

Behold...Me!

all it is, you are starting topics which ar ebnig, heavy, not as simple as u make them to be, plus u ar elabelling everything as either haram, bidah or kufr....now when u use these terms ppl will be upset.

so a word of advice stay away from these issues unless u have studied them. if u wanna learn about these issues this is not the place, go to a scholar or ask a question and i will get u an answer from a scholar.

We're not against you, mate! We just disagree with you. I'm sure you're a real nice person, but your speciality seems to be the Haram!
By the way, check this out! It's really funny!
