Essential free programs to install on a new Windows PC

There is always a ritual that is carried out on a new (or even old PC), which involves removing as much pre-installed software as possible and then replacing it with useable and essential alternatives.

(I am certain I have done a similar post like this before...)

Here is my install ritual:

(Please note that all the software listed on this page is both legal and free. No pirate programs in this list. Many will also be opensource.)

Web Browser

Firefox. Many prefer Chrome, but I prefer Firefox (en-gb localisation). I like how it works and I don't think google monitors it as actively as chrome. Another alternative is Opera Browser.

Egyptian Military in bloody massacre while many Muslims look on in silence

Rabaa sign

Well, the killing has started since dawn this morning in Egypt. The news is horrific, the pictures graphic, bodies burned to their bones, brains seeping out of their heads.

Yet many Muslims are silent.

Where are the critics of Israel when the Egyptian military is more brazen, more brutal, more deadly?

(it is also more cowardly - it only fights unarmed protesters. If confronted by another military such as that of Israel, it says "meaow" and even gets them to fight its own civilians in the Sinai Peninsula).

The sins of Egypt's Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood

Since the Military coup in Egypt, I have been firmly in support of Morsi and against the coup that took place. This is especialy so on twitter.

However that does not mean I am immune to the mistakes made by Morsi.

If you look online at the opponents of Morsi and the MuslimBrotherhood, there is a level of hate and vitriol that is startling. While all of this may not be the fault of Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, some of it is.

So here are some of the mistakes by Morsi.

1. Getting lost in useless and stupid debate.

After the winning the parliamentary elections before Moris was elected to president, the parliament had a lot to deal with - a country mismanaged for 60 years, an economy in freefall.

Stop... Its Fajr Time! (No its not)

In the summer months in the UK there is a debate over when Fajr time starts.

The main cause of this is that the sun doesn't go far enough below the horizon for pitch black conditions to occur.

This causes a problem because Fajr time is supposed to be when the "true dawn" starts from pitch black conditions.

Based on the unique conditions of being at such a high latitude, different groups of scholars have come up with different solutions, the most conservative of which is to start Fajr in the middle of the night.

The main solutions are to either use a different point to decide when Fajr starts (hint: the "true dawn" was not the true test of fajr, but a test that worked where tested with the real requirements that were laid out in the Qur'an).

All hail the new Pharoah of Egypt - Mohammed ElBaradei

When democracy doesn't deliver the western friendly face that the people should have voted for, ofcourse he should be appointed after a coup.

Mohammed ElBaradei was the darling face for the western media who would have loved for him to win last years presidential elections to complete a fairytale story. The only problem was that he was little known inside egypt and his bid to become president failed spectacularly.

Now, that is not a problem as he doesn't need to win any popular vote to be appointed Prime Minister. All he has to do is utter a few spineless words. Words supporting the army, condemning the Muslim Brotherhood for "plotting" before the coup. (Plotting what? support for legitimacy).

Farewell to Morsi, the President elect of Egypt

The Egyptian president has fallen, forced out through a combination of mass protest and the military.

I wonder if the people on the street even realise that they have been played by the old guard.

Morsi, from the Muslim Brotherhood, had a tough reign in power, elected only a year ago.

Powerless President

When before the elections it looked like there was a possibility that a Muslim Brotherhood candidate might win, the military had made a decree removing the powers of the president, in essense making him a puppet. Even then they were forced to allow him to be president by the people who at the time did not want a member of the old regime to already subvert the revolution.

The Revival. On a Phone. (New website theme for all to test)

Just think about it. a website on a phone.

wow. Just wow.

Back to reality.

The current peach-coloured theme (called "insight") doesn't really work well on small screens. or even big screens. Its a load of peach. and orange.

So to get around those limitations, a new theme has been made - "FiveThirteen", which has been made primarily to work well on smaller screens. You can change between the two - there is a switch theme box on the top left on the peach theme, and on the top right (or below the main content on mobiles) on the grey/new theme.

The Taliban win

After 12 years of trying to kill them, of stating that they do not negotiate with terrorists, the US on the day it handed over the running of the country to the Afghan government has now announced that it will open direct negotiations with the Taliban.

12 years.

Countless dead.

and that is not an exaggeration - there is no exact figure for those that died, mainly because the invading forces did not consider it to be good for PR to count the numbers killed.

The invasion took place in the pretext of the 9/11 terrorist attacks where around 3,000 people died.

Turkey: What is actually happening?

If you have read or watched the news over the past few days, you will have read about protests in Turkey.

They started over an infrastructure project over a park but when the Police went in forcefully, they spread and became massive.

A lot of people have wondered if this is an extension of the "Arab Spring", and that this is "the voice of the people rising up against their authoritarian regimes".

As the protests have taken journalists by surprise, there has been some loose talk and weak attempts to understand what is happening in Turkey. Others have tried to give the normal voices to the protesters.
