Condemning murder

Murder is wrong. We all know that, right? So it's easy to say that it should be condemned.

We can take that one step further, when there is a murder, organisations and people should get out there and let people know they will not stand for such things. They should issue a condemnation, right?

And then when there is another murder the next day they should do the same again. The day after that too, inevitably there will be another murder. There may even be multiple murders in a day! (the world is a big place)

However this gets tiring - even for those simply reading the condemnations on a clock-like basis- and then just updating a press release on a daily basis would be crass and ignored by everyone as well, it is issues only so often.

So what happens is that organisations only offer condemnations for murders that either affect them or acts that are seen as outside the norm, worse than what happens on a regular basis.

I myself used to write such condemnation articles - that is until when I missed occasions I used to receive emails asking why events/atrocities had not been condemned leading me to realist that I was simply paying lip service to the whole process.

Recently after the brutal , the . This lead to some Muslim groups (well, ) to wonder where the condemnation for such as event is.

Here is the thing though - Pakistan is experiencing a lot of instability where murder seems to happen on a daily basis, whether it be normal crime, American missiles or Taliban suicide bombings. People are being murdered left right and centre, and if an organisation that is not specifically affected by an atrocity comes out and condemns only one event, it is ignoring the other deaths, even implying that they are worth less.

The archbishop of Canterbury may feel special affiliation with these Christians by the link of faith, which ordered him to issue a condemnation, the question that arises is not about other groups (Muslims condemning the violence) but where the condemnation of the rest of the violence is?

Was the Archbishop being simply blind to focus on these murders, or was he wilfully biased?

Where are the Muslims Groups condemning it on a daily basis? I suspect they got tired after rehashing the same press release over and over again.
