Doing the right thing for the wrong reason is like not having done it at all.
Allah's Apostle said, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intention and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah and His Apostle, then his emigration was for Allah and His Apostle. And whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for."

Don't we all at some point emigrate for worldly benefits or would earning ones rizq not be considered a worldly benefit...I'm sure it would be. Hmmmm need to begin to prioritize, it's so easy to fall into the trap of the duniya and get caught up in the rat race. Should remember more that rizq is from Allah whatever we'll receive has already been ordained to us.
I though it was ok to go if you're earning to provide for the family etc etc.
I think, as it said, it's about the intention. If you're doing the right thing for the wrong intention then it's not good.
I was once told an interesting fact about the "rat race"
"Even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat..." LOL
LOL might aswel quit now then
