Assalaamu 'alaikoum unsleepy heads! i come in peace.
well, hope you find this blogpost usefuuuul
most of it will be based from Fortress of the Muslim
or here (same thing)and later i will edit (if need be)
I might add stuff from "Book of Manners"
above, me all set to write a fully develop blogpost with everything you need to know then...see below
--- is there any point in me posting the duahs etc...or should i just link you to the websites with everything on it? (reference, arabic, translation etc...), most of it would be copy pasting...i dont want to be useless... ---
So now, im just going to do something else which is, point out some interesting stuff and tell you about the things ive learnt while starting to create this blogpost.
Some of the benefits mentionned in ahadiths about certain duahs/ayahs.
1. reading Ayaatul Kursy gives you protection from Allah and no evil devil can come and bother you until morning!
2. Reading the last two ayahs of Baqarah (the one that start with "aamanarrasul.." will get protection from anything that wants to cause him harm
3. if you read this duah before bed
O Allah, I submit myself to You, entrust my affairs to You, turn my face to You, and lay myself down depending upon You , hoping in You and fearing You . There is no refuge , and no escape, except to You. I believe in Your Book (the Qur'an) that You revealed, and the Prophet whom You sent.
and die during the night, you will die upon the fitrah (= the religion of Islam, the way of Ibrahim 'alaihissalaam (Bukharee with Al-Fath) (from a quick (wiki) research Al-Fath is a commentary on Bukharee written by Ibn Hajar)

Interesting stuff i found:
1.
O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the evident , Maker of the heavens and the earth , Lord of everything and its Master, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You . I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Satan and his helpers . (I seek refuge in You) from bringing evil upon my soul and from harming any Muslim.
I used to recite this duah in my morning/evening dhikr, and actually you should read before bed, interesting...
2. LOOK AT THIS DUAH!
"الْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا، وَكَفَانَا، وَآوَانَا، فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لَا كَافِيَ لَهُ وَلَا مُؤْويَ
Praise is to Allah Who has provided us with food and with drink , sufficed us and gave us an abode for how many are there with no provision and no home.
Doesnt it look like the one you say after eating?!
3. About this...
"سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، والْحَمْدُ للهِ، وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ" Glory is to Allah (thirty-three times in Arabic) , praise is to Allah (thirty-three times) , Allah is the Most Great (thirty-four times)
i know it says 33,33,34 and usually its 33,33,33 and laa ilaaha illallahu wahdahu laa chariika lahu lahumulku wa lahul hamdou wa huwa 'alaa kulli shayin qadeer. (Muslim) and i thought it was a mistake, but it isnt. Or...all books have made the same mistake...
4. The duahs are real eyeopeners, they just remind you of how, when you close your eyes and fall asleep, you have no power whatsoever over if you're going to wake up again.
an extract from one of the duahs
If You give it life then protect it , and if You cause it to die then forgive it...
(It as in Soul) Pretty scary, you realise that you have to ask Allah for both situations...because you don't know what's going to happen to you...
5. Found out that there's also surah Sajdah (on top of Mulk) to recite..hm...must have a look at this.

So if you're bored and don't know what to do, there's lots of memorizing here! and let us know how you're progressing!
Don't let that little voice in your head (might be your nafs) tell you that this is SO much and SO long and that its going to be SO long to read at night etc... it's not. it doesnt take long. and the benefits are great. What i did (yeah, me who hates all them arty crafty stuff) i wrote it all down on A4 paper with felt tips etc.. and just read the sheets everynight, inshallah at some point it goes in your head and you wont need the papers anymore. (for the Surahs, read from Quran before bed, remember its recommanded to go bed with Wudu, here i give you another reason to get wet and cold before getting into bed or you could just listen to them)
and Dear unsleepyheads, let us know if you have become sleepyheads?
Comments
I've always known it as 33,33,34.
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
me too..a while back. but as you can see the hadith is from Muslim, took some getting used to...
maybe ask someone more knowledgeable?
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
i was told tht a dua can go either one of 3 ways (have u heard this too otherwise im gnna have to look for it)
my question i guess is are dua's self-limited??? if one recited duas for something will tht get rid of the problem?? and if it doesnt, what could be the reason????
PS: i guess tht was a good point you made about Allah testing your patience...
oh and the 4 ways were :
Either Allah will respond and fulfil the desire of the person who made the Dua,
Or He will ward off some evil from him because of the Dua,
Or He will make something good easy for him to attain because of it,
Or He will save it with Him for him on the Day of Resurrection when he will be most in need of it.
