Firefly is(was) the best TV show evarr! before it got cancelled after half a season. It was not broadcast on terrestial Tv in the uk.

There is even a follow up movie called "Serenity" (not to be confused with the pilot episode which is also called "Serenity")

Not seen the IT crowd.

i've never seen it, but i disagree with this statement. there are plenty of great shows that only ran for one eries...like.....er....i'll get back to you.

Well the network messed it up. THey never showed the pilot episode (which explains what is going on) til the end, they showed one episode on friday night, next a couple of weeks later, some midday on a weekend... with no real schedule.

Besides the network did not understand it Supposedly an executive did ask after seeing the show "why are there horses in space?"

It is way better than most tv out there.

Bavaria's most glamorous politician -- a flame-haired motorcyclist who helped bring down state premier Edmund Stoiber -- has shocked the Catholic state in Germany by suggesting marriage should last just 7 years.

Gabriele Pauli, who poses on her web site in motorcycle leathers, is standing for the leadership of Bavaria's Christian Social Union (CSU) -- sister party of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) -- in a vote next week.

She told reporters at the launch of her campaign manifesto on Wednesday she wanted marriage to expire after seven years and accused the CSU, which promotes traditional family values, of nurturing ideals of marriage which are wide of the mark.

"The basic approach is wrong ... many marriages last just because people believe they are safe," she told reporters. "My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years."

After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.

Fifty-year-old Pauli, twice divorced, is a maverick intent on shaking up her male-dominated and mainly Catholic party which has dominated Bavarian politics since World War Two.

"This is about bringing ideas into the CSU and starting a discussion," she told German television on Thursday after she had unleashed a wave of criticism from other politicians.

Former foe Stoiber said she did not belong in the CSU and European lawmaker Ingo Freidrich dismissed her views.

"She is diametrically contradicting our Christian, ethical values," Freidrich said.

Peter Ramsauer, head of the CSU in Germany's parliament, compared Pauli's ideas to "the dirt under your fingernails".

Pauli, who attracted attention earlier this year when she posed for a magazine wearing long black latex gloves, was at the centre of a snooping scandal which eventually led to Stoiber, Bavarian premier for 14 years, saying he would stand down early.

She said his office tried to obtain details about lovers and alcohol consumption to use against her.

The CSU will elect Stoiber's successor as party head at a conference next week. He will be replaced as state premier in early October.

Viewed as a party rebel, Pauli stands almost no chance of winning next week's vote. The contest has been fought mainly between Bavarian state economy minister Erwin Huber and German Consumer Minister Horst Seehofer.

The popularity of Seehofer, a 58-year-old married father of three, has suffered from the disclosure that he had been having an affair with a younger woman who recently had his baby.

A lady in Tarawih the other day – who’s from Pakistan, was telling me how sick she is of the clock. For in Pakistan the Adhaan would always tell her the time.

In Saudi our day revolved around the five Adhaans. I.e. Fajr azaan was our alarm clock, after Fajr we’d eat breakfast, we sleep after breakfast and the Dhur adhan would wake us up etc etc

Everything from dinner time to bedtime would revolve around the adhaans.

Here we have to totally rely on the clocks. I wake up when my alarms rings, I have to start my fast according to the time on the clock, read Fajr according to clock, wake up for work when my alarm rings, see off my class bang on 3.15pm according to the clock….Iftar is based on what time it is on the clock…. Tarawih prayer starts exactly at 9.00pm.

When I went to Saudi, I didn’t even take a watch. Here, if the watch stops. Its messes up your fasts, you’re late for work, you miss Salaah’s completely or kids are sent off late home and parents are screwing.

IMO there's more barkat in the day when your timetable revolves around the Adhaans.

if you want you can call the azaan urself!

i have a digital quran player that calls the azaan and it always goes off at work (much to everyone's surprise)

I heard in a lecture once that one should organise their day around the Adhaans.

i think the ideal way of life is to work from fajr til zuhr. then after lunch have a nap until asr. then spend time with kids til maghrib, then with spouse until isha. then sleep.

(might be a bit difficult to do in british summertime)

Daytime Nap is a Eastern thing isnt it? Cos those countries are hot.

I can lie in during the morning - but can never sleep during the day.

if you have a half-hour 'power nap' in the middle of the day it gives u a HUGE boost of energy that will last u thru til night time.

it especially helps if ur fasting in my experience.

not really hard just alot of work and reading. These past 2 weeks have been pretty intense. The are literally racing throught the syllabus. Most days been in 9-5 everyday. Starting from next week get thurs off which is good. Good first assesment due in this mon and first exam in nov (they dont hang about). Undergrad was a stroll in the park compared to postgrad. You get alot of help and guidance (its funny how much help you get when you folk out 7k).

Hows the gap year going?

yeah i knew about the step up from the LLB to the LPC

i actually wish i was doing it now you know...but oh well, dont regret my choice......enjoying the gap too...watching you lot struggle for the year 😃

Germany is just catching up now to concept of Mutah marriage.

well, its going to get very popular in Germany, now that a minister is calling for it.

It is not Haraam. If it was, I would not do it. Our Ayatollah says Prophet (pbuh) allowed it, so it can't be Haraam can it?
Companions used to do it a lot. Instead of feeling guilty and doing it in secret, why not do it without fear because Islam says its ok. Its there for our pleasure. so, enjoy it. Thats what it is there for. Why not benefit from it.

Its popular among us lot, but some sunni brothers also do it now, even in Egypt. I know a few guys in college doing it.
