What Did You learn Today?
Salaam
It is said that "knowledge is what you hear from the mouths of men as they only repeat the best of what they have heard"
I think it’d be useful to post tid-bits of invaluable information-religious/non religious here in this thread.
It can be stuff that you learnt in work/Uni/Mosque/in a talk/something a wise elder told you/a life experience or something that you suddenly realised.
It can be minor or major stuff. It has to be stuff that you never knew before.
Today I learnt…
1-Why I shouldn’t trust, join or think highly of the Sufi Muslim Council
2-It’s quicker for me to get to Uni by Car than public transport.
3-Rubicon Pomegranate juice is tasty and apparently very good for you.
4-Spending so much time typing on computers leads to illegible handwriting and poor spelling
5-Being in the spotlight on a regular basis results in a higher chance of insincerity in actions and can negate all good work.
Keep this thread updated regularly…
Wasalaam
"]A desk is capable of supporting 10 million microbes and the average office contains 20,961 microbes per square inch, according to research.
The key offenders are telephones, which harbour up to 25,127 microbes per square inch, keyboards 3,295 and computer mice 1,676.
By contrast, the average toilet seat contains 49 microbes per square inch, the survey showed.
Stop hyping bliss, you weren't that bad. It's a family/cousin thing, everyone’s OTT when it comes to hygiene. But they've calmed down now.. I think. My aunt doesn't still touch door handles, she tends to kick the door open, before she use to touch the door handle with a black bag and the other aunt use to change her bed covers etc whenever someone use to sit on them. And now my little sister is showing symptons of OCD.

OCD is an anxiety disorder, and we studied it under abnormal psychology. So sorry dave, you're abnormal!
There was a programme on tv and it said that telephone boxes have more germs than the average toilet. Not surprising since people use telephone boxes as their toilet. At least people clean and keep their bathrooms clean but there's no-one to clean phone boxes, might be the answer to why telephone boxes have more germs.

Everyone obssesses about something.
Giving it a name makes psychologists feel important.
I say they should get psychoanalysed.

A recognised psychological condition. As defined by psychologists.
Ask them and every great person ever born was clinically insane in some form or other.
it is a matter of personality. Some things will bother you more than others, Some things will concern you more than others.
What Did You learn Today?
its very easy to undermine what u aint expereinced urself
i cant speak for all psychological conditions
but OCD is a serious problem that can take over ur mind and life
a friend of mine has covert OCD - she cant clear her mind
from the surface she looks fine - nor does she openly manifest any symptoms of OCD
but cos she cant clear her head - she's always distracted
and thats why she had a serious, life threatening accident on the road a few days ago
we all get 'bothered' and 'concerned' or 'obsessed' with stuff
but not everyone ruins their life and/or has road accidents reg cos of them

Since it is an emotional issue for you, we will have to agree to disagree.
Some of my opinions may sound a little cold. Coz they are.

Doesnt rubbing any part of your body make it bigger? something about awakening the blood vessels underneath the skin..?
What Did You learn Today?
I don't believe in it.
Soooo if I rub my head for instance, I'll have a big head?

Supposedly I learned more about boring contracts.
More importantly I learned how uncommonly incredible my wife is as a mother! I rarely get the chance to come home during the day and see what everybody is up to but I did today, apparently she's been teaching them english, french and spanish, how to sing, baking and how to buy bread, how to treat animals, reading, gardening, first aid, being graceous to servants and manners.
My daughters are four months old - they can't even speak yet.
But she thinks there is no such thing as too young to learn any of the above, and whether she's right or wrong is totally immaterial to me, I'm just impressed that she invests so much in our daughters. I think despite my genes they are going to be quality women someday.

Considering your a guy, I would have to agree that it would be despite your genes.
But that is some serious work ethic.

Yea no kidding! If I were half that dedicated to Law School I would actually know a thing or two about contracts by now. Such as it is I'm more concerned with what's happening on Lost than I am with daily lectures.
What the hell is the rule against perpetuities anyway?! And why would the king even care!
It's absolutely nonsense, half the time I feel like these guys are talking just to remind us they are smart. I really want to fly again, this is boring.

I've learnt that people who have a Ectomorphic body time (people who eat a lot but dont put on weight easily) are more likely to be artistic, sensitive, apprehensive, introverted, socially restrained, and highly self-aware.

That's really interesting, my wife is a music minor with one hell of a voice and very self aware.
She's very petit (thus my interest in that size zero thread) but her favorite thing in the world is a cheeseburger.
It's unfair...
What Did You learn Today?
Yeh, I found it intresting too. My dress size also does not reflect my great love of food.
I'm also all of the above. Its weird stuff.
In my case its also a genetic thing.
OCD:
"I must wash my hands four times every 115 seconds using different bars of soap to keep the germs away."
washing my hand business about a year ago or even more it was really bad for me . I would wash my hand every time I would open a door close a door. I would usually push the door open but if it did not open I would open it with a tissue. If not a tissue finally resulting to my hands as a last option. Its unimaginable to start to think how many germs door handles have got on them. Some girls in my school walk straight out the toilet not even attempting to open the tap they walk straight out. I don’t wat to even start to think whether the boys do the same.
Their was me scrubbing my hands all the germs being pass on the door handle the thought of me having to use my fresh hands again to open the door again killed me.
My hands at one stage went all wrinkly and old looking as I was washing it too much with all kinds of products.
And yeh I stopped eating crisps and chocolates and sweets and other related foods. I would think of how it was made and the stories wat u here about how packet food is made puts u off even more.
As for now I try not to think how food is made. As know I love my food to much.
I ‘v cut down a lot on my washing hands business, but I do still wash my hands quite a lot. I just try not to think of all the germs floating around.
