I’ve always been BIG on privacy….I don’t like telling people about stuff that I consider private and I don’t like people asking me either….if I offer information then that’s different.
I’m not a totally closed person …as some are. If someone is close to me then they pretty much know almost everything about me.
My parents aren’t snoopy people…they’ve never been down my wardrobe/drawers or mobile….and on the rare occasions when they’ve accidentally opened a letter of mine…(even if it’s just a bank statement) I’ve always kicked up a fuss….but overall my parents respect my privacy…dad always knocks before he enters my bedroom.
…I think thats because I’ve always told my parents about practically everything anyway… they’ve never had a reason to suspect me or invade my privacy.
However, I’am extremely conscious of my double standards….I’ve very close to my younger sister and have always felt it’s my “right” to double check where she’s going and go down her phone regularly…but I don’t do that behind her back.
And if I was a parent….I have a feeling that I’d be very snoopy mother. That’s cos I know how much crap goes on out there…
Yep I can be hypocritical…and I think it was Prophet Isa (AS) who said “treat others how you would like to be treated”.
Slightly of the topic…it is said the sign of the one with perfect taqwa is that he can have all his private thoughts on display for everyone and he won’t feel embarrassed by them.
So…how important is privacy to you?
Personally, I think privacy is a big issue here whilst for some reason it’s a non issue back home…
Is it correct to say, that only those people who have something to hide would be big on privacy?
I used to have a Nokia 8310 and it could record your conversation without the other person knowing…I never used that option on anyone. Apparently it’s illegal anyway…
What does Islam say about privacy? Do parents have a “right” to go down their children’s things..? Or can they only do that if they have a reason to suspect them?

I hate nosy people, i absolutely cannot stand nosy people! Its why, when how, even when its not their business.
My parents are not nosy at all however dad does occasionaly open sis's mail and she gets soo annoyed. If my parents went thru my fone it wouldnt bother me but i hate my older bro goin through it for the simple reason being i dont get on with him at times.
I just realised i had my diary lying in my room so gona get rid of it not cuz i dont trust my family but cuz its too private and i dont need it no more :evil:

oh ok, i meant if ur sole reason for destroying it is coz someone may read it, then IMO u shud keep it and just hide it well instead. but ofcourse if the memories themselves are worth discarding, then fair enuf...

Its just that way i kinda got carried away and wrote EVERYTHIN and now lookin back at it, it wasnt even worth writing down and some were upseting memories which should really have been buried long b4...but its still hard to get rid of bad memories, i dont knw why :?

I do that too.
I never recall or like to read about bad stuff that happened in my life. It's easy for me to block stuff out.
Speaking of privacy….I think one strongly feels offended when people try to invade someone’s privacy especially if they’re not even in the wrong.
My nan has a very annoying habit of calling me on my mobile and asking me who I’ m with but when I tell her who I’m with…she asks to speak to that person as well, just to confirm that I’m telling the truth?!
Sometimes I laugh it off as I have nothing to hide…after all she does that with everyone. Even her grown sons who are well into their 30’s…

As long as you tell its okay, what annoys me is when someone reads a new message on my fone and does not tell me and then a couple of days later when im really bored ill go thru my fone only to find that i have a few messages that i never knew about :evil:

True a guy goin thru a girls stuff is sad....i feel sorry for your bro, how would u feel if sum1 went through your stuff thinkin your hiding somethin.
I am pretty big on privacy which is why i would freak out if someone whent thru my stuff and which is why i wouldnt go thru anyone's stuff.
