Girls MUST Learn How To Cook

MuslimSisLilSis โ€”

Says my gran each time I go and visit her-and whenever she finds out that I still only know how to make tea and boil rice she gets angry with me ๐Ÿ˜ข

Anyways-this topic makes me laugh

I have a cousin around my age who is ALWAYS getting told off by her mum cos she don't know how to cook-apparently no guy will want to marry her

thats bull-she's pretty, religious and clever

her and her mum have massive kick off regarding cooking

cooking is not rocket science-if u can read and follow directions all u need to do is purchase a good cook book and ur sorted

ALSO boys should be self sufficient-there's too many mummy's boys out there who dont know how to do jack-they should learn

of course-I'm not saying that girls shouldnt cook-all I'm saying is that cooking aint the be all and end all

there's more to life

Anyways, discuss gender stereotypes and the misconception that girl MUST know how to cook otherwise no one will want to marry them

Ohhh you mean Subway - okay quick note on the name.

The sandwiches they serve - with the long rolls, is called a "Submarine Sandwich" - they don't have a TM on that, they've been around forever.

They just happen to make them - somewhat badly I might add, but certainly better fast food than most places.

I never order from there, there is an awesome place called "giovannis" right near me that makes pizzas and subs and they deliver.

5 bucks and BAM you got a meatball sub, or a breaded cod sub, or a sausage pepper and onions - capicola, pizza sub, whatever

been meaning to try their zuccini planks...

lol yea I was kinda curious about that since you said you had bad experiences with Mexicans on the streets of Philly... but there are no Mexicans in Philly - most of them stick around back home or go up to ohio.

YOU LIED.

Oh well... I lied to you - ITS TIME TO COME CLEAN. Hayder... brace yourself.

I made Timbo up.

There is no farmer from east sheffield named timbo.

It's true that love and pride needs to go into ones cooking.

Otherwise the dish just turns out crap.

Like mine do when I'm not in the mood to cook...

Dawud โ€” Sat, 10 Dec 2005 - 22:59

Whats heuvos? or however its spelt?

Dave, did you see how sorry I was that I might have scared Timbo away, did you EVEN see the Tractor???

You could have let me know, instead of feeling guilty!

Also you should have said Chesire, its still local and believable. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I believe Sheffield was more industrial than agriculture...Dunno.

I'm going to stop eating out. I only eat out cos I'm too lazy too cook..

Does anyone know the quick and easy way to make pasta? I've never made it..

I tried making it the other day.

1- I placed the pasta in a saucepan of boiling water.

2- I kept stirring.

3 - After 7 mins I added the sauce to the saucepan.

4 - After 3 mins I drained the pasta and ate it.

No idea if that is how you're supposed to make it. I doubt it.

Tasted a bit funny - but then maybe it was because of the sause. Next time I'm gonna get spicy tomato sauce or something like that.

So its all down to the sauce. What kind of sauce did you use? And what kind of sauce can you get..

I'll be shopping tomorrow in Tesco's and seeing what I can pick up.

Some people even put Tuna or chicken in their pasta..

I used 4 Cheeses sauce. Gonna avoid that one from now on. There's some tomato one but I don't know any others. I'm new to this pasta thing.

I just went down to Asda and picked up what I thought might be good.

For my next experiment I'm going to try and see what I can do with tartar sauce. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Lol.

Add pasta to boiling water, or to normal water and bring to boil.

let itr boil for about 7-10 minutes. You test it with the 'bite test' get a piece out (with utensils!) and bite it to see if its soft enough. (don't put the bit piecev back in). Leave until cooked.

Drain pasta.

you can either put he pasta back in saucepan, add sauce and mix with no heat or alternatively, with heat.

Serve hot.

When I play football, this is exactly what happens.

Consistancy is the issue, practise could be the remedy.

What i meant to say was that i cant get it right when the portion size changes.

I blame the asian style of cooking no one uses measurements, its all relative.

Lol.

It wasn't a question, it was a choice. 8)

But since you also asked for more tips, I'll try;

1./ If its one serving about two litres of water is Insha Allah T'ala sufficient, if its about four servings, double the water. (bear in mind the more water the longer it takes to bring to boil, however once its boiling the pasta will cook quicker, you could probably get away with half these amounts if you wanted. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

2./ Get a decently big pot for the water, you want about 2 inches spare above the water, incase it boils violently and the pasta sytarts doing small jumps like little yellow dolphins on a stormy sea. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

3./ Put about one one third of a level table spoon of salt oin with every litre of water.

This add a little flavour to your pasta, but more importantly, it raises the boiling point of water; thus your water will be hotter and cook the pasta fasta. (oh I am hillarious! )

4./ About a plate of pasta will be enough for most people, but put in a sensible amount (a little less if its 'a practise' run, a little more if people ask for 'an encore'. Plan ahead, The Holy Prophet SAW has said, "war is strategem.")

5./For simplicity's sake, lets go with bring water to boil route, so do that.
(no need to stir it, the salt should mix in on its own Insha Allah T'ala)

6./Take pot off the boil and put it on another ring/hob or something(so its easier to control, i.e. so its less er..bubbly.) WATCH OUT for the other gas/electric ring/hob if you left it on.

6 part b./ Immediately add the pasta, but carefully so as not to get hot splashes, then immediately put pot back on the heat. (if you think its worrth give the pasta a cold rinse to clean before stage 1. but chances are, this isn't needed.)

7./ leave for about 5 mins (NO need to stir).

8./ Do the bite test, repeat step 7./ if neccessary.

9./Drain pasta carefully in a colander (In punjabi its called a 'channa'), Don'tt do any thing sill, if the steam rises up and gets too much, take a break and then carry on, seriously its one minute job tops. ๐Ÿ™‚

10./ Put pasta back in a (any will do, even the one you just used) pot, put it on a cooker, add sauce, stir. (turning the cooker on is optional, depends how hot you want it, but the heat of the cooked pasta should be sufficient.)

Et Voila. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I might give recipe for a cheese sauce and a tomato sauce.

Hope this helps.

Lol, was gonna say: "duh! its pasta" but then I remembered there was a time when I couldn't cook pasta.
