Three guilty of airline bomb plot

Three men have been found guilty of plotting to kill thousands of people by blowing up planes flying from London to America with home-made liquid bombs.

A Woolwich Crown Court jury convicted Abdulla Ahmed Ali, 28, Tanvir Hussain, 28, and Assad Sarwar, 29, of conspiring to activate bombs disguised as drinks.

Four other men were found not guilty of involvement in the suicide bomb plot.

The men's arrests in August 2006 led to new airport restrictions on liquids and brought chaos to travellers.

The jury heard that at the time of his arrest, plot ringleader Ahmed Ali had identified seven US and Canada-bound flights to blow up over the Atlantic within a two-and-a-half-hour period.

They were flights from London's Heathrow airport to San Francisco, Washington, New York, Chicago, Toronto and Montreal.

His so-called "quartermaster", Sarwar, had secured bomb ingredients at his home in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and a flat in the Walthamstow area of east London had become the bomb factory.

There the men put together a special mixture of chemicals that they planned to take onto planes in ordinary sports drinks bottles stored within hand luggage.

dont know if they are really guilty or not but judging by the news report it seemed that everything fell into place too easily like i cant believe that mi5 and the police actually got everything right on this one particular case they managed to crack which yet again gives a bad name to british muslims and indeed muslims throughout the world.

Basically seemed like it was too good to be true for the police and mi5 that they could sneak into the room and install a hidden camera, 'search the woods and actually find a suitcase with bomb making equipment' just seems odd that everything fell into place at exactly the right time. ....but who knows maybe these three really are guilty and the police actually managed to get one right ...lol

Well, to be honest, it could have been because... the chemistry and the engineering side of the plot is potentiallu just north of where the seven little dwarves lived, past Shrek's house.

It seems what is actually looked at by the jury is wether the defendant(s) was/were Muslim or not.

ok, the three convicted were not convicted in the first trial. Now of the three that were not convicted, the prosecution will press for a third retrial.

So... keep trying them until they are found guilty?

What do people think of the defence line used that they were making a documentary, and not really terrorists?

Life in prison for something that

1. they did not do,
2. could not have worked,
3. they had argued was a youtube documentary they were making

seems awfully harsh.

Same with the sentence for the guy who got arrested from up north - who seemed to have some mental issues but was still given life.

On the other hand you have people who promised to kill a muslim a day, and had a detailed plot along with explosives to blow up a mosque, even a written note giving reasons who get away with it scott free.

And it's not a one off either - write bad poetry, get convicted for terrorism. Horde the largest private cache of weapons discovered since world war 2, plan to start a war with the muslims, and you are not chanrged with terrorism and get a more lenient sentence.

It is dispicable.
