salahuddin was in my eyes one of the greatest muslim warriors ever but one of his weaknesses was his kind heart, after taking back Jerusalem (alhumdullah) he let all christians fighters return home however they betrayed salahudin and rectified the port of Acre allowed richard to join and carried on fighting, richard slaughtered 3000 muslims in acre.
However i cant say enough good about salahuddin he was the rectifier of faith, extremely religous as well as couragous and should be an example to us all . He defeated the invading crusader armies and took back jerusalem and the middle east. may we find another person like salahuddin to unite us and lead us.
And if he (and other muslims) killed them, we would be hearing these days how bloodthirsty early msulims were.
However the historical records are full of praise of muslims as they were not bloodthirsty, and were merciful to their enemies.

nothing wrong with killing soldiers along as civillians are not killed.
However i do agree with you muslims are praised for their chivalry methods of war, also salahuddin did not kill them or take revenge and kill civillians because he did not want people to say the muslims acted like the christians. Islamic armies of the past were so great due to their dedication to islam today many muslim armies are currupt e.g pakistan, saudi arabia, turkey, iraq ect
As sonn as an enemy soldier surrenders/captured, you MUST care for him.
The rules of engagement are layed down on the qur'an. Islam is not the American military where you can shoot an injured person lying in a mosque point blank...

You gotta know when to be tough and when to be kind.
BUT doesn't that naturally exist in all? Being able to stand up for yourself?
No.
Yes it does.
I agree with Seraphim. If you live a rather sheltered life (like I have done  ), you will not cope in the big bad world - and it doesnt help when you are naturally very passive. There are some really cruel and mean people in the world. One of my biggest inward jihads has been to be tough  Believe me from personal experience when I say that not everyone has the ability to stand up for themselves - I have to fight myself everyday to be able to fight (odd considering my career!) But Ive found out that the more mean and horrible people I come across, the easier it becomes!

Okay,
so now we're all talking about being soft and hard.
Whats that got to do with heart hardening?
I thought heart hardening is similar to being burnt out and cant be bothered to do anything even religiously?

So...is being spiritually down and 'heart hardening' the same thing?
It's not all about being able to cry and things is it?

Just be steadfast, and know the limits.

good good.
I think sometimes its a good idea to harden the heart.
People who wear their hearts on their sleeves often get them crushed.
