yup. I know it coincides with the Ashura (well, since we celebrate THEIR freedom...), but what is it called?

Our calendars don't work in synch, so sometimes it is bound to coincide with something. Per the hadith which I found on wikipedia, the two fast days I suspect Ashura might relate to:
Yom Kippur, the day of atonement (which was in September), a fast for forgiveness as in some ways is Ashura, and it occurs on the 10th of the month (of Tishrei) like Ashura. However it has little to do with the exodus as mentioned in the hadith.
Taanit Bechorim (which is in April), in which firstborn sons fast to commemorate being saved from the plague that befell Pharaoh's Egyptian firstborns prior to the Exodus. The hadith isn't clear that only some of the Jews were fasting, but it is otherwise a close fit. The forgiveness element may derive from a combination of these two fasts.

God bless you all. I've missed two deadlines for that thing, and these are my own entirely voluntary deadlines, so if I don't die first I will do it but I'd best not set a time. Same goes for any articles that were ever under discussion. Undeniably very lame but if I didn't pop in now I'd be getting into one of those uncomfortable phases of avoiding the people I disappointed so... if you are disappointed by all means nag but please forgive and accept my greeting...
