You can buy peri peri sauce from Nandos and then cook the chicken at home if you want to be sure.

But SOME Nandos are halal and others aren't. They have to be individually certificated. The guy you met on the bus might have been talking about one branch in particular.

If you ask someone who works for Nandos and they are a Muslim and they say 'yes, its halal, then the sin would go onto them instead.

And you can even eat non-halal food if its been given to you by a Christian or Jew (fatwa c/o Sheikh at Regents Park Mosque).

I think alot of Nando branches have a certificate on their walls that says they're supposedly halal (unfortunately no muslim works there for me to ask) but they're backstory doesnt seem to check out. I dunno. But yes, if you check and they tell you it is halal, then the sins on them.

The Qu'ran states that the food of Christians and Jews are halal for us. This is why we can eat kosher food. But the fatwa from the Shiekh was that if we go round to a Christian's house, we shouldn't ask if the food is halal, and we should eat it. This promotes inter-faith relations and is in line with the Qur'an. If you don't agree, phone up the mosque. This doesn't mean we can buy non-halal food from a Christian, though. It isn't really an issue for me because my family are mostly atheists!

But what if they're eating pork or something ... you cant expect me to eat it!!

Yeah, but surely if a jew or Christian eats food that is really "halal"/kosher according to their law, it would be halal anyway? I think Jewish law is just sstricter on which meat we can eat, sheep, goat and camel are considerred non-kosher.

No i was saying that haram can become halal when in need. Personally i would never touch that filthy animal let alone eat it. Theres a slaughter house near where i live. When Im going into town I pass it on the way. A lorry always goes in packed with live ones and OMG the stench is unbelievable. I have to cover my face with my hijab coz its that bad. They are all screeching away coz they know their mot is coming.

I really dont know how non Muslims can eat meat from the filthy animal.

Of course you can eat kosher meat, whether or not halal is available. Give me a good reason why not. It is killed for the sake of Allah (swt), and adheres to all the halal requirements (and is actually stricter than halal requirements).

Look, I'm not saying you're weak, or would do this generally, but it's extremely, extremely difficult, if possible for a human being in that situation.

Muslims don't eat pig meat and other humans coz Allah tells us not to, but if Islamically we are meant to eat whatever is available to save our lives, your disobeying Allah by not eating Whatevers there.
