you see, that is the difference. I see it as a part of a religious festival.

If I saw a christmas three (yes I spelt it wrong again - can't be botehred to correct this time - rather type this long diatribe...) in a house, I would automatically assume the owners were either christians or (young) descendants of christians (who found atheism to be "clever").

As far as I can tell Christmas hasnt really been a religious holiday in a long time.
Its all too commercialised. Therefore baring this in mind; isnt the above just a moo point?

On Eid people go to Whimmy road and have done so for years. bearing this in mind, can we class eid as not a religious festival but only a social festival?

being commercial is not necessarily bad.

Yes but Christmas being commercial is a worldwide phenomenon ... and as far as im aware going to Wimmy isnt.

Semantics. different people around the world do different non-religious things on Eid. A lot of the activity may even be considered commercial.

Ofcourse, that does not mean the actuivity is not allowed - nor does it make Eid a non-religious festival. Same with Christmas.

Its not so much about giving the gift but looking to see where such a practice originated from. Secret santa is a tradition that has been practiced by the non muslims for a no. of years. Just because we change the name doesnt mean to say its then ok to particpate in such a custom. Its still doing something which the non believers do. If that makes any sense.

Putting a xmas tree is wrong full stop. My dads friend is a very devote muslim, been ummrah, hajj, spends most of his time in the mosque, prays all his 5 prayers. His kids who are all in their 30s, married and some even have kids always put up an xmas tree :shock: . If they were lil kids i could maybe understand but they are grown men and women! He doesnt approve and tells them not to do it but they dont listen to him.

I'm gonna be leading the first ever Eid class assembly my BNP school has ever seen.

Pretty excited about it...I think I'm going to dress up, show a power point presentation, play some nasheeds...

Already the teachers are buzzing with questions..

Mum, dad, big sis, lil bro and relatives are doing eid today.

Me, two of my other sisters and my other bro doing it tomoz 😃

Some might think odd of me.........but i'll be working tomorrow (after I read my eid namaaz, ofcourse) and then i've got to drive down to bournemouth (about 4.5 hours journey time) in the early hours of the morning again for work purposes...............so while most of u are rejoicing and scoffing into the early hours.....think of me ..... 🙂 anyhow, I wish Eid Mubarak to the forum (those celebrating either today or tomorrow) 🙂

My mum celebrated Eid with my fiance's family, alhamdulillah! Its not something I ever imagined would happen. Insha'Allah by next year she'll be celebrating it for real!
