Some good points but.... what's wrong with music with clean lyrics? Musical instuments don't make any music haram, it's the lyrics that do that.
I dont think western music with clean lyrics actually exists, but i could be wrong. If they are not swearing they are talking singing about all sort of haram things.
Are you actually allowed to listen to music where musical instruments are played? coz some nasheeds do have music.
Yes, Naz, there is some good western pop music. I can give a you a few examples if you like.
yeah sure
OK, I'll give you the ones that "Sheikh Anti-music" will have a VERY tough time proving haram.
Patience- Take That, the title says it all
Shine- Take That, Be ready to forgive someone
Cry- James Blunt, "I'm a friend"
Powerless (Say What You Want)- Nelly Furtado, bullies are really weak. My signature is based on this.
Father and Son- Ronan and Yusuf. Come on! Don't tell me you've never heard of that!
If Tomorrow Never Comes- Ronan Keating, just see the lyrics for this one.
Unwritten- Natasha Bedingfield, it's your life, so live it to the full!
I Bruise Easily- Natasha Bedingfield, recovery
One Last Chance- James Morrison, getting through a tough time.
There're more but I don't want to flood the Forums with every song I know. Of course there are many good nasheeds and other songs too, but you asked for western music.
yeah they seem orite. Just summit i would never listen to in a million years, not my sort of music.
Well i use to listen to dance and the odd R&B but im trying to give it up. Ive seen that club anthems 2007 advertised on tv and my hands are just itching to download it lol. For the past month just been listening to nasheeds, you cant go wrong with them.
One song that i cant get out of my head at the mo is sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
Thats exactly what i thought when i heard it,
trust me listen to it a couple of times and it will grow on you. He has got such a nice voice, crappy lyrics though.

Love it! Any chance we can hear your version on a myspace or somewhere?

At one point i wanted to hook up with some Muslim rappers and make a political song about the Niqab debate last year...
I sampled Dr Hook and the song would be called:
depressing and sad tracks
i nearly started crying when i listened to them
something more upbeat and fast would be better

You know, I also like Complicated- Avril Lavigne, it's a song about being yourself. Lots of Muslims can benefit from that. Oh and Bad Day- Daniel Powter, such a happy go lucky song! Anyway, I don't know any "good" dance tracks, Naz, but hey, who knows, maybe there are some. If someone's getting you down then one of the best songs to listen to is Powerless.
"Cuz this life, is too short, too live it just for you, but when you feel so Powerless, what are you gonna do, but say what you want"
Sorry, got carried away. Are there any songs that have made you cry?

A sweet rap would go well with this. Sadly very few remixes can do justice to the originals.
Fatboy Slim is one great DJ who recognises this and kindly put together an album you might know called A Break From The Norm, featuring original samples he's used. Of course you remember this (which is a cool video) but what about the Camille Yarbrough original (a hymn to Jesus)?
And here's one of the other tracks (more Bill Withers genius).

Lol @ Will Smith having aged!
I love that track 'Ain't No Sunshine'... all versions, but I think my favourite is the one by The Lighthouse Family.
Erm... and this thread has gone really off topic.
Yeah it is
It's partly my fault!
