Women's rights activists are to march in 11 cities in Canada and Europe against plans to allow Sharia law tribunals in the province of Ontario.

Islamic law could be used to settle civil and marital disputes under a proposal made by former Ontario Attorney General Marion Boyd.

Roman Catholic and Jewish arbitration tribunals already operate Ontario.

Opponents of Sharia law say allowing Islamic tribunals could lead to discrimination against women...

Learn Arabic?

How many of you have learnt arabic?

I mean undertand arabic, not read it.

I used to know quite a bit of arabic, but unfortunately I have forgotten most of it.

Is it important to you?

I think it is important. As an example, when reading the qur'an, I used to understand parts of what was actually written. The rest I could make out from translation.

I have lost this ability, with my loss of arabic.

Call centres

How many of us work in such places?

I work in a call centre doing sales.

I hate it when the mugs, thinking you cannot hear, say: 'Its some person in new delhi' or summat similar to that.

(I am doing this job coz its darn right easy. I know I can do better, so no lectures please.)

We have already have had one fully confirmed case on these very forums (mujahid, mujahid'), and some suspect we have another.

Is it contagious?

What can be done?

Is this such a serious illness that I should not be mocking? (and serious answers are also welcome!)
Government 'wastes' African aid

The government has been accused of wasting hundreds of thousands of pounds of African aid.

The BBC's Five Live Report said it found more than £700,000 spent on hotel bills and meals in Malawi for US staff.

The National Audit Office said it may mount an investigation into the use of consultants by the Department of International Development (DFID).

The DFID has yet to issue a response to the accusations, which will be aired in a programme on Sunday.

'Phantom aid'

One project in Malawi funded by the DFID has been accused o

US anti-war grans face no charges

This could go in another thread, but hey, it a new topic!

US anti-war grans face no charges

Charges have been dropped against five elderly anti-war protesters who tried to enlist at a US military recruitment centre, a city prosecutor has said.

The women aged between 65 and 81, who belonged to an anti-war group called the "raging grannies of Tucson", had been charged with trespassing.

They entered the Arizona centre in July asking to go to Iraq instead of their children and grandchildren.

Dajjal: The Antichrist

Salaam

Time for a new topic (probably much discused earlier).

There is a notion of an antichrist in both Christianity, and Islam.

There is supposed a minor dajjal for every age, with the major one (referref ro the Maseeh Dajjal) arriving near the end of time.

There are some weak hadith (if you do not know how hadith were collected, then ignore the word 'weak') that even refer to it having one eye. This may mean a singular vision, or that it may be someone like Abu Hamza.

He is referred as Maseeh Dajjal.
